Parallel Imported didn't have the P20 Pro that I intended to purchase on Monday so instead of being sensible & looking in other stores (I hate shopping), I bought a Samsung A9 2018 (SM-A920F) - largely because it's the first phone I've seen with 4 cameras (24+5+10+8MP), plus I've been really happy with my A8 2018 handset.
A must-have condition with phone purchases for me is that I must be able to root the device & take charge of it. Debloat, update the GPS files, turn Google Ad Services off - that sort of thing. Quickly (too quickly it turns out) I googled SM-A920 +TWRP, saw a heap of How To pages with some XDA links & made the assumption that all was good. Turns out those How To pages were all generic pages for every Samsung phone ever made with the link to the TWRP.img reading "Not Released Yet" Grrrr. The XDA links were all lamenting the lack of developer support....
So I made a mistake, whatever, I've done that before too. What that means is there's an almost new A9 for sale today.
A9 2018 is very similar to the S8 Plus - comparison here
I've had it on for 24 hours now, it's a fine phone. Dual SIM, 128GB storage, 6GB RAM, 3800 mAh Battery, 6.3" screen, Octa-core Qualcomm processor. Comes with receipt, box, papers & standard accessories.
Monday I paid $789. Trademe has used A9 at $699, new $948. Quick sale of my mistake $550 delivered by overnight courier.
