Does anyone have a spare Seagate Barracuda LP Drive 7200.12 1GB or 2GB to sell or swap even?

Had a RAID disk array problem (thanks to my cuz the magic blue smoke came out) and I need to recover some data from a couple of drives.

I require either a similar replacement drive or just a drive circuit board will do as long as the board works.

Any of the following models will probably have the right board ST1000DM003, ST2000DL001, ST1000DL002, ST2000DL003, ST2000DM001, ST2000VM002 , ST2000VX002.

Important thing is the drive PCB Number this must be 100617465 Rev A, B or C.

Can you get back to me ASAP if so with a price.

I do have a ST2000DM001 which has died - click of death no smoke.

But the PCB has 100664987 Rev B on it.

Further research at www.hdd-parts.com indicates there are also compatible circuit board numbers as follows:

100603204 100573971 100617465 100591286

The Seagate drive sizes are 500Gb 1000Gb 1500Gb and 2000Gb and marked DL or ST 500, 1500 or 2000 followed by DM or DL plus some additional numbers

I've got a drive which just says Barracuda 1000GB
Model: ST1000DM003

But I'm not sure its the right PCB - 100687658 REV C

I have ~20 dead or dying Barracuda's sitting in a box collecting dust if required. A quick check turns up 2TB M001's (x3), 500GB M002's (x2) a 1TB M003 & others.

Fwiw this is my goto site for anything HDD. Low level editing tools /FWdownloads/recovery advice & more. Many of the forum members are forensic recovery experts.

It might pay to check there to see if the firmware version matters when swapping out the PCB.....

(P.S - the "ST" stands for Seagate Technologies :))

Thanks for that update. I was aware the ST meant Seagate.

As long as the drive/board currently in transit works I'll be able to reassemble the array as I've got two out of the four drives already operational from stock boards, I just need the one missing board and I can pull off the data or simply rebuild the array with (new) drives. The array had four 2Tb 7200.12 Barracuda and I either didn't notice or factor in they where actually different models with different boards and ironically all my compatible spares are of a single type.

I'll make contact if I run into any problems and I sincerely appreciate the offer.

Just looked and all my retired 2tb drives except one are WD, the one I have is a ST2000DM001-9YN1. Is there any way to query the board ID without pulling the drive out and looking? Its still in the case and connected, just with nothing on it till I get some more 10TBs to swap over with in the machine.

Seagate have a utility that'll do that for you. SeaTools for Windows. It's freeware, if you can't find it then message me back & I'll upload the 18mb portable version I've got.

As long as you use the full ST2000DM001 9YN1 part number during a lookup at www.hdd-parts.com that ought to give you the exact board number and revision in most cases.

However looking up ST2000DM001 9YN1 gave hundreds of possible matches as there are differing board revisions for ST2000DM001 9YN1XX-XXX (X signifying the specific model of drive) the good news is that

www.harddriveparts.com and www.hddzone.com report the boards are interchangeable.
