Hi all, so I think I killed the on-board SATA on one of my Supermicro servers - it powers up fine but won't boot to anything but USB drives. So I am after a SATA controller.  Not fused on RAID or not, just needs to have 2-4 internal SATA slots and be bootable (not sure if all SATA controllers are???).

I am in Auckland if anyone has one and they are happy for me to pickup or meet.

Thanks!

Sorry, no. Just checked and its has PCI-E 16 with a x8 riser, plus a PCI slot.  The mobo is a Supermicro X8STI - https://www.supermicro.com/products/motherboard/Xeon3000/X58/X8STi.cfm

I was running Windows Server 2016 with Hyper-V on it.  I assume you are asking if I could run the O/S from a USB drive?

newer version of VMWare of just made a whole pile of cards unsupported, but not something you need to worry about.
