I'm looking for a large heat-sink to go on a speed controller for a belt grinder I'm making. The size is about 175mm x 110mm x 25mm.

I know there is always equipment being thrown out that have large heat-sinks so I would rather reclaim one from discarded equipment reducing waste than just buying a new one.

I'm based in Tauranga and get to Hamilton/Auckland every now and again.

Older audio amplifiers have them. I'm sure there's lots of 80s amps hitting the landfill right now.

When all about recycling is said and done, there's also Jaycar.

If these guys still exist they used to dismantle old electrical/IT equipment and had all sorts of heatsinks.

There's nothing particularly magical about heatsinks. They're just lumps of metal (typically aluminium, copper is better) with a smooth face to maximize conduction from the IC, and vanes to maximize surface area to maximize heat transfer to the air. Worst case, make your own. You could even connect it to, or make it part of, the (I assume, metal) structure, so that the structure becomes part of the heatsink.

If you don't mind waiting, you can get them from the usual suspects in China quite cheaply. I got a bunch of them years ago for embedded systems use so unfortunately not useful for you, but cheap enough that I just got a whole batch to stockpile and use as required.

Nothing as mundane as the 2n3055's

Motorola / Signetics 7-4503, datecode 6920, 6922, 6933 - probably older than half of the Geekzoners :-)

Haven't been too successful in finding a datasheet, but haven't done too deep a dive.

These look like hitop TO-3's - none of this low profile TO-3 rubbish ...

Each Emitter pin connected to a 0.3R 1% 10W wirewound

AFAIR, these came from a 4v 75A linear regulator chassis, weighed near on 70Kg, and powered a DTL (diode transistor logic) minicomputer. I disassembled it years ago and kept the heatsinks. Things like electro's (8x 40,000uF, 15v - the size of a tall beercan) were ditched, and the transformer and chassis sent to the recyclers.
