Andib: Ok so assuming you have a 1Gbit Symetrical business fibre link, with 40 servers, That's only 25Mbit per server.  Don't most DCs offer 100mbit connections?

No I do not have a fibre link yet as in my other comment that's at the end of this year at the moment it's 1mbs per server the majority of the compute power being used currently is for offline compute.

Tim's getting LOIC started up...

I just found out a colleague of mine has a fibre link and some space so if anybody is looking for a better internet uplink contract I can place a cluster there.

TimA: 75/day
Is that like some dual hex core with 128GB ram and 4SSD's?

I better hope it is.
Pro tip. Dont use ADSL for hosting servers.

Thats for an 8U cluster. I just found out a colleague of mine has a fibre link and some space so if anybody is looking for a better internet uplink contract I can place a cluster there.

What sort of SLA do you have on network connectivity related issues?

MTTR is 10 minutes
Uptime has previously been stated
The MTBO is unable to calculated we have close to 100% uptime save for acts of god
Downtimes greater than 1 hour incur new servers to awaken at a secondary location

does your network connectivity provider give you an SLA to allow you to state that?

a secondary location? with connectivity that low, how does that work? backing up to a secondary location to restore from for a new server seems a tad difficult...

does the secondary location still come in play with colocation?

Maybe I should rent you some space on my lawn for your container. (can't be seen from road) I have 100/50 UFB fibre. And my area is a year 3 fibre area so you could easily get your own P2P fibre if you want. And VDSL if you need yet another backup. Also it is very rare for the power to fail for more than 5 min here. Even during very big storms. So you won't have to use the backup generators much. North Shore Auckland location.

How would a house even get enough power for all of that?

The only application I can see here is for some kind of rendering or compute cluster where not much data needs to be sent in.

Secondary location is on a fibre connection. It is not too far away from primary though so we drive the Drives up there. Yes its in play

Could you please advise what type of connection you have running to this container? What's the security like? What servers do you have running? What are your restrictions on things that can be run on the servers?
