Yes.

TBH if you want 5Ghz there are far better devices around. The lack of any band steering at present in the UniFi software/hardware is a big issue.

I'm just happy Ill have coverage over the whole house and down to the pool instead of relying on the flaky HG659 Wifi.
Being PoE can run it through the ceiling to where I really need it and get rid of all these fricking cables over the house that the wife keeps yelling at me about ;)

That is a good deal. If I didn't have so many neighbours using 2.4ghz I'd grab a couple.

Aerohives have great hardware, but be prepared to put in some time to learn their system to get the best out of them :)

Aerohive is also very very expensive. Without a valid subscription, you miss out on their cloud control interface and once the hardware hits EOL in Aerohive's database, the AP can only be then controlled via CLI unless you keep paying for support. It is a really good enterprise grade AP though.

Do whatever you want to do man.

Yah I have a real issue with vendors who lock features of their devices away. I don't mind paying for upgrades and support, but baseline features, pass. There is a switch vendor that does that too. I love their gear but simply won't "rent" stuff like that.

How does Ruckus compare to say Engenius?

Comparing Ruckus to Engenius is like comparing a Nokia 100 to an iPhone 6. In honestly there is no way to compare the two as you're talking about two very different brands and products with very different fundamental architecture.

Ruckus quite simply have the best RF performance in WiFi kit on the market. Nothing else on the market comes remotely close. There is a reason people use Ruckus 7762's for outdoor WiFi and a $80 Engenuis AP can also give you outdoor WiFi.

Ubiquiti fits somewhere in the middle. Great pricing, good (but not great) performance, and nice looking products. UBNT's firmware and QA however is terrible - and that's coming from somebody like me who's deployed hundreds and hundreds of their radios and UniFi kit. You just need to understand all the limitations and realise new products and features may not be stable for a good year after launch. It's taken well over a year since UniFi 3.0 software appeared as beta, and it looks like the new 3.2.5 beta is finally usable.
