Best GPS Live Traffic service?

Hi, looking to buy a new GPS and want to get one with Live Traffic. Any recommendations for which make has the best Live Traffic service? Looking at TomTom & Navman but would consider others.

I have a Navman and I don't think I've ever seen it give a warning of traffic once. It annoys me to no end as it was one of the reasons I went for the model I did.

I have a Garmin 3790t and can say the same thing, never had a notification of traffic (Wellington based).

I have TomTom Go Live 2050 NZ Aussie version, there is also a "World" version
It is brilliant a diverts me different routes depending on the traffic, last night 3 times as the traffic changed due to the rain. Auckland southern motorway
Shows traffic build up and where the tail is back to within metres of the actual tail end.
Shows road works, road blocks etc

Sounds like the TomTom is the main contender. Kind of makes sense as I believe the TomTom uses the AA Roadwatch service whereas the Navman calculates it on a number of criteria but do the Navman & Garmin not give you an option to replan the route if it detects traffic?

Had a Garmin 3790T and never got a notification, I have a 3490 it has a FM traffic receiver and I have had alerts via that, also the ability to receive via bluetooth from a connected smartphone

the notification services in NZ are in their infancy. I believe TomTom (AA) are the best right now, but even then it is dependant on time of day and location, in some areas you may get nothing. I would consider it an added bonus, but wouldn't rely on it 24/7.

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

I have a Garmin 2497LMT that occasionally reports stop/start traffic ahead on the Porirua motorway and that you save 10 minutes taking the old Hutt Road into Wellington rather than the Motorway.

TomTom. It's decent for Auckland (probably only works well in Auckland).

The few times I used my Navman around Wellington the delays were always one minute, even in morning traffic on the motorway. I don't think it ever alerted me of anything on route.

Navman also does or used to use the AA service. My Dad's one only seemed to work in one of his cars, something to do with the way the cigarette lighter is wired maybe

I've seen waze working well overseas and the price is great.

Another option worth checking out is google maps, I have used this a few times on my phone and the traffic information is almost spooky in respect of how much it knows.

My Californian based friends swear by Waze, and use it all the time. When I was travelling from San Francisco to Santa Cruz, Waze directed us beautifully around traffic congestion on the Interstate.

I tried it out myself a couple of days ago, and it seemed pretty spot on with its depiction of heavy traffic on Auckland's North Western motorway.

And as a bonus, you can have the Terminator telling you where to go . Or Colonel Sanders. Or a boy band singing your directions (my teens love that one). :-)

Almost off-topic but I find the Android maps fairly accurate for showing delays. Haven't looked into it bringing up alerts as you drive however.
