Hi, i have hooked up a 15 inch lcd screen keyboard and mouse in my front seat, with the small gigabyte t1028 siting safely in a box at the back in the toolbox, Its a work truck, and i do asset updating, is this legal whats the rulz with this does anyone know? i love the way i can input data now not having to look and type on a small laptop and the laptop is tucked away out of sight, to prevent theft.

I'd say a 15" is probably not legal.

The AA has Panasonic Toughbook laptops fitted in the front of their vehicles. Not sure of the screen size, but the concept is legal. Definately not allowed to watch movies while the engine is running. Safest would be to wire it so that the LCD is turned off when the engine is running (if suitable for what you do), that prevents any questions from police or WOF. The mouse might be a problem, better to use a touch pad or tracker ball and glue it down.

Niel: Definately not allowed to watch movies while the engine is running.

WOF rules were changed several years ago and the restriction that screens were not allowed to be active while the engine was running have been relaxed, primarily because they meant that in dash navigation systems were also technically illegal.

this is where i want to build a lock up box with a couple a vent fans, laptop gets a bit warm

havn't showed me boss the setup yet i want to get my legal know how strait before he freaks, and tells me to rip it out, im waiting for the traffic cop to come on duty here in town at 5 so i can ring and discuss regulations,
im sure some laptops are 15" screens, even if i have to make some mods ill do it like run the wire that goes from lcd to cig lighter, re run that through the handbrake so screen only is on when handbrake is on, even make a box for lcd so it opens like a laptop lol, but i dont want to go through to much work
