Yep - just had a look at their site. The user has to acknowledge each echo request so it is no good for an automated presence detection system. Back to the drawing board...

Latitude is automatic, nothing else. Easy to use. Simple.

Just Google trying to push more people to Google+. Again.

EchoEcho other way around, you'd request where are they.

So unless there's another similar service, only find my friends on IOS does what latitude did?


They'd have to accept the ping. It doesn't work for them. It's a tablet and they won't have eyes on it all the time. Latitude is automatic, no user interaction needed.

I like the fact that with Latitude I can go out on my motorbike, and if someone (Like Jess) wants to see where I am, they can without me having to do anything.

for selected users you don't need to respond to an echo request. Your

Considering I was playing with both the Trakt.tv API and Plexapp APIs last night, I think my geek cred is at quota.

Bummer latitude as we know it is leaving maps. Will have to give echoecho a try.

With echoecho, if I put a star on a contact, do I still have to ping them to get a current location? I liked how simple and little interaction between me and the app was required.

I liked the idea of opening it up and just seeing where friends and family were withouth having to ping them all.

I was the supplies/parts driver for a motorcycle tour a mate organised last year and got everyone to install echoecho on their phones. It was brilliant for me keeping tabs on where they were and the riders found it really useful knowing where I was too on the odd occasion when problems were struck.

I have also used this with my family. Location has been within Google+ android app for about a month so this was inevitable. I now use the location within G+ and I think it is actually better than latitude, as I can just choose to share with certain circles.

No API with the G+ location which I never used with latitude but I can see why the loss of this would be annoying for some people.
