dman: Good, just hearing on the 6 o'clock news right now that they will be amending the draft of the law to make sure that phones usage in a car will not be illegal if it is handsfree and touched infrequently.

How do you define "touched infrequently"??  Once an hour, once a journey or once every 15 minutes.  Is the cop going to tail for  an hour or two  to collect the fine..

what I'm guessing is if you don't touch the phone over and over and over again in the 15secs (tops) that the officer happens to be looking at you then you are fine

It's a multifunction device, mobile phone is just one of the functions, to get all upset because it says you are not able to use that one function in any way, when you are actually wanting to use a totally different function of it is jumping the gun a little IMO. Lets see what if any changes they end up making and what prosecutions end up as a result.

To be honest, if a cop sees you pushing at a phone in a holder, you are in the process of making a phonecall on the speakerphone which is allowed. What are they going to do about it to prove otherwise?
