I have a garmin nuvi - I love the fact I can update the maps for free weekly - Or if I notice a roading change can I can log it and then its checked corrected and the map updated.

Its an older model and doesnt support lanes - Which I will defiantely get next time - Bluetooth also works good with my htc desire.

Cheers Shane

For Garmin GPS units there is the NZ Open GPS Project that has weekly updates for NZ (as others have said). This relies on community fixes, so if you see a problem let us know here:  http://www.gwprojects.org/forum/

There are also worldwide maps available at http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/
