Hi,

I use the overplay DNS service with Slingshot and have swtiched off the caching service on the account dashboard - For the past 3-4 months this has been working fine.

Over the last few days i have been unable to use the DNS service.

Can anyone confirm Slingshot have enable some kind of transparent proxy which has stop this service from working? and is it possible to have it switched off?

Hi,

As long as Caching is disabled there is no transparent proxy in path on the slingshot network.

I don't think that is quite true, with caching off your still deliver youtube via a cache.

I don't think that is quite true, with caching off your still deliver youtube via a cache.

I wouldn't put a Google (or Akamai) cache in the same box as a transparent web proxy/cache. They're not really transparent, for one. More like mirrors (albeit unreliable ones) as you can see them as the end point in a trace route or ping.

Correct Google & Akamai are CDN's (Content Delivery Network) they are not proxy's.

There is a number of caching appliances on the network and only one is a transparent proxy:

Steam (CDN)
Oversi (Hard to explain its like an intelligent CDN)
Akamai (CDN)
Google (CDN)
HTTP Caches (This is the only one that is a proxy)

So the Steam content server is still around? The last few times I've launched Steam recently it has updated everything from other servers, and I don't see the Slingshot server on the list (not that I'm complaining - I was getting line speed.)
