Hi i am having major problems with my internet connection its been like this for over 2 weeks now since i moved house i have slow internet speeds, trouble watching youtube, troubles connecting to online games, have run Slingshot so many times with no solution
I even got hanged up by you guys.
I have All you can Eat. at my previous address i was getting what speeds i should be getting, etc from Modem Router Speeds,

No matter what time of day i make test all exactly the same.

And now when i do a speedtest.net for some reason it now says i am in wellington and i live in (Auckland) is this Right?? my brother and mother have same Plain as me and they get better results then i do, i have brought a new computer brand new modem Belkin N600 series so its not the modem nor computer.

Im coming down to a point where im about to change ISP

D

what do you get from http://speedtest.slingshot.co.nz ? how about from http://speedtest.orcon.net.nz/

looks like there might be some connectivity issues between providers if you get 15Mbps to one location, and 2Mbps to another. depending on routing, it is quite possible you could end up with faster connection to WLG site than an AKL site.

try using a different modem. I looks like you have a belkin modem, I have had numerous issues with these. Switched to a linksys, and all my problems disappeared.

Iv'e Tried  3 different modems this Belkin is fastest upload speed then the other2, Slingshots own dynalink modem and TP-Link modem. same Download speeds but slower Upload

Now of Course Slingshots speedtest is going to be that of the proper speed.. but thats not what im geting anywere else.

i can go all day with different speed test's
And here's A test File Downloaded from Nz  This is how long it will take to dl a 450M

Looks like contention within the Slingshot network. I'd honestly look elsewhere.

any other good isp??

I followed my Phone lines down threw into my garage and i have found 6 phone wires cutt, 2 are rewired togetther with 2 wires  connecting with a plastice connector thing could this be the cause of my dl speeds??

i told slingshot about how dodgy my phone wires looked and described what i was looking at and they hanged up on me how rude is that.

your wiring might prevent you from getting 100% of what you "could" get, but the fact that you get 18Mbps to slingshot would seem to suggest that it aint a wiring problem.  The fact that you can even get that speed to a Citylink node, beyond the ss network, also backs that up.

Perhaps there is a dodgy or overloaded APE (auckland peering exchnage) link on the SS network, or you are being bandwidth managed somehow.

What fo you get for http://dts.net.nz/account-tools/speed-test/ (wellington node)

what do you get from a "tracert speedtest.orcon.net.nz" command?

Try a PM to the Slingshot user on these forums: http://www.geekzone.co.nz/user_public.asp?user_id=33295 and see if you get better luck than via the helpline

P.S. dont expect good service from -ANY- helpdesk (ISP, Telco, or any other company) over a long weekend..... wait till tuesday and then phone.  Most of the 'good' reps are probably on holiday!

Im experiencing similar speeds to you. My modem syncs at 18meg, however speedtest (via DTS) to wgtn/chch/akl is stuck at around 2 meg. Oddly enough, I get 12 to Sydney. (am in Christchurch, capped plan)

Somethings pretty messed up with Slingshot if local speeds are that much more rubbish than international

Having similar issues here. International speeds have dropped big time. Might be just a long weekend thing but as usual Slingshot is so unreliable it feels.

On the 100gb plan capped plan also.

Here SS mention a known speed issue with Canterbury, which will take them a casual week to fix

is it just me or has this Hole new FIBRE OPTIC scenario gotten out of hand and now our dsl adsl.... is becoming that of the old" (dial up) ???

I have a feeling everyone is going to be on these kinds of speeds and push forward to Fibre optic..... just throwing ideas around..

Fibre Optic = Faster Speeds, Faster Downloads, Faster Usage, Faster Cap Gone, = more $$ For ISP.

Probably a bit of a long bow to draw, given that so few households can access fibre currently, Slingshot is only just starting a trial of fibre, and i saw somewhere that Orcon only has a few hundred fibre customers.

That scenario could only really work if there was a fibre option available to most homes, so maybe ten years down the track, it would be possible
