My brother and I have had orcon genius for a few months now in our flat and everything was fine until this happened last week.

Last Tuesday I woke up and noticed I had no internet. I looked at the genius router and saw that the internet light was indeed off. I noticed the adsl sync light was still blue so logged into the router and confirmed that there was adsl sync on the line but no connection to the internet. I tried a normal reboot of the router to see if that would fix the problem but still no go on the internet. My first thought then was there was something wrong with the username and password information as we had a problem with that in the past which my brother was able to fix as he was the one that had the account information. I couldn't do that this time since he is currently out of the country. I tried a factory reset to see if that would solve the issue but it did not. I didn't try anything else to see if the problem would resolve overnight

Wednesday morning and still no internet and with my brother unable to remember the password I used the forgot my password link on the orcon website to get a new one. I had to go to uni for class and before I came back home got the new password from my brother. When I came back home I noticed the adsl sync light was now red which I confirmed by logging into the router and saw that indeed there was no adsl on the line. I tried a normal reboot of the router and putting in the new password but still no joy for the internet and the adsl sync light was still red. Tried another factory reset and put in the new password but again still no internet or adsl sync.

Thursday afternoon after coming back from uni and still no luck with adsl sync or internet decided to send in a support email from my phone detailing all of the above. Since all the account information is in my brothers name I put his email down for the email contact and had to wait until he got the reply from orcon support. My brother got a reply which he forwarded onto me yesterday, the email said to reboot the router since someone at orcon support had made some changes to our connection. The email also said to try other jack points if the problem was still there after the router reboot which I did try but still same result no adsl sync or internet. I had also tried using a different router with the log in information but same result no adsl sync or internet. Apart from the adsl sync issue and no internet everything else is working fine the wireless and a wired connection to the router work and we are not using any kind of phone with the router.

I know there is a chance there could be some kind of fault on our line but nobody else in our block of flats seems to have issues so I am leaning more to some kind of configuration issue. I also suspect it is a configuration issue based on the adsl sync suddenly dropping after the request for a new password.

if anybody here or from orcon could help it would be most appreciated. I would phone through on my mobile but currently that is my only access to the internet when I'm not at uni and I need to have it available for phone calls instead of waiting on hold calling support.

Hi there,

There is currently nobody in the queue for technical support so you will be able to go straight through to the team. In the first instance it would be best if you can call the team on 0800 13 14 15 as we don't always get to the GeekZone threads in time.

Cheers,

Cam

I can see our queues from my desk - they're zero. ;)

6.44pm 6 July 2012: What's it like now? Been listening to hold music now for 10 minutes...

Edit
OK, after being subjected to bosa nova version of Tutira Mai Nga Iwi (i?!?!) for 25 mins I got through to a pleasant woman who knew what to do to get our phone back online.  Very nice to have a competent support person.  Cheers Orcon

Awesome to hear it's sorted. We do obviously get a busier in the evenings as everyone is home from work and wants to call in at the same time. :)

I tried to call through but the way my mobile works there is just no way I can bring up the dialpad to enter 1 before the machine cuts me off.

this finally has been fixed from a visit by a chorus tech. apparently was somehow connected to the completely wrong circuit so because of that was never going to have a connection. it's so strange since it was working fine and then one day just suddenly stopped. Chorus tech guy had no idea how it happened but he fixed it so all good now.
