Hey just wondering if i copy the sip settings from the modem if i can use it on a client on my pc? can I have sip devices connected at once like sip client on pc and modem itself or just one device at once. One other question can you also use it on another ip address? because we lose power quite often and would be cool if i can use it over 3G. The call center didn't like me the person who i kept talking got mad and kept saying i can get internet on my pc even though thats what i wasn't asking for XD

The Orcon SIP platform is pretty closed down. I know for the enterprise SIP its based on IP address. I personally wouldn't use it.

ah ok I was guessing it properly would be, Ive got a Server at home with 24gb of ram just waiting for me to put a virtual Asterisk on it XD I guess i might have to buy a 2talk plan

I'm looking into taking the plunge into freeswitch myself.

Whilst I'm researching in the interim though, I've ditched the genius modem and phone in favor of my old dynalink and a linksys pap2t.

After getting "tech support" to tell me what my voip password was, there was enough info on the orcon genius for me to get a pap2t up and running.

Everything the genius didn't have i tried copying settings found funnily enough on a 2talk guide http://blog.2talk.co.nz/spa2102.html

It's been working reliably for me for a week now, the hardest part, really was just getting orcon to tell me the damn voip password.

*edit* i'll take the pap2t to a friends place over the weekend to see if it works from his connection.

It should do. Once setup you can take the ATA anywhere there is a broadband connection.

Interesting. I hadn't actually thought of that. I was thinking along the lines of 2talk and VFX whereby once you have the settings set up in a pap2t or spa2102 that you could take the device to any broadband internet connection anywhere. So I stand to be corrected if this is not the case with Orcon.

You can't logon to any Genius provided Orcon VoIP numbers without being connected to the IP that matches your account. We even tried on an older Orcon DSL connection and it wouldn't work.

I was able to connect the pap2t at a friends house who also has an orcon connection.

I wasn't able to connect to orcons login server from an xnet connection though.

It would take someone smarter than me to state exactly why.

The reason is explained above - there is nothing complex about it.

Orcon restrict access to their VoIP network only to within their own network.

Based on your experiences I will able to take my DrayTek Vigor2710VN which I have been using on Xnet with VFX and use this as my modem/VOIP device on an Orcon Genius account?
