(1) Hi does anybody know if 2 degrees are using 900MHZ UMTS in any parts of the country where they have their own network. Looking at bartenders map only seems to list 2100MHZ for UMTS transmission.

And

Are they in the process of upgrading their 3G to DC-HSPA+ .

Thanks in advance for any info.

I'm fairly certain they do have 900MHz sites.

Sorry, a little off-topic here, but how are you getting the MHz out of BarTender's map in the first place? I used to be able to click individual sites and a little popup balloon would appear, but that hasn't worked for me in months (either at home with Safari or at work with Firefox). Does it still work for you?

Edit: And I should ask, are you using this map or is there a newer one somewhere?

Aha! I've been using an older bookmark; the latest one listed on BarTender's blog (which shows all sites immediately without needing an address, but the sites aren't clickable). I'm not sure whether I ever noticed that link at the top :)

That's different still; it shows the local 2D site as 2100 whereas the one at the top bar of GZ shows both 900 and 2100 for the local site.

I can't really comment. Mainly because I don't know for sure anyway. Not my area. :-)

Also be aware that none of the 2G/3G information is held / known by RSM.  So all I display is the frequency ranges that telco X are permitted to transmit on, not necessarily what is being transmitted over those carriers.

Just like there is no way to know what Vodafone are transmitting on their frequency ranges on 900 be it 2G/3G or how they split their carriers up.

How they use the carrier space is up to each carrier... And I doubt you will ever hear a public comment from anyone who works at any of the telco's as to how it's sliced & diced.

I thought the new towers are all 900 (dual actually) and old ones 2100 only ...

Not sure what the cut off date was

But this may not be wholly true ... Rule of thumb could be all places that are not the big four city are new and some new towers in the big four but can't tell you which

That's basically true, although the older ones are being upgraded.
