Hi guys,

we have an issue at the moment, where throughout the afternoon we get calls from these weird numbers.

It's the same guy, but different numbers flash up on our caller Display each time.

It is a +649 number, but one can tell that the caller ID is spoofed.

Example:+6490344556454

I get my father to answer the phone on most occasions, but he keeps on saying they hear his voice, then there is a long pause, and then they hang up.

This is very annoying, we try ignoring the phone, but they keep on phoning back.

3 times yesterday, and 3 times they day before, and 4 times the day before.

This happens from about 1pm, and goes on till after 9pm.

Does Slingshot, have any tools to identify the source of these numbers, to block them or anything?

We are getting fed up of these guys calling, next time they phone, I'm going to yell down the line for them to Fk off, and don't call this fking number again, as we are fed up.. This has been going on for at least the past week.

Give them a call. They will have a procedure for dealing with nuisance calls. You'll need to name at least 4 examples.

Will do, however I'm sure they can only deal with local nuisance calls, and not the offshore ones.

Maybe I'm wrong...

Correct me if I'm wrong but that is a local number +64 is the NZ country code.

There are some things which can be done wrt international callers, although not a whole lot (beyond reporting to the upstream carrier). Nonetheless, they are the only ones who can help you.

Stuff may be done, however it's going to be difficult, because whenever they call, it appears to be a new spoofed number.

@Boby55, +649 is local, however Local numbers aren't that long, and when I do want to call them back, I get a tone similar to engaged, I'm sticking to my guns here, in saying it's somebody calling from offshore with a spoofed NZ number, to try to fool me.

Spoofed or not, it will be coming from somewhere and ultimately can be traced and/or blocked. So don't concern yourself too much with that, just get it reported with as many examples as you can and make sure Slingshot follow through on it.

Geekzone has a language filter for a reason. The mods here do give more language latitude to users like yourself who have been here for a little while. Imho that approach is misguided and can only lead to more of the same. Please respect the language filter.

Telcos can't stop calls made via VOIP like that, which most are. I have tried and they have said they can't do anything about them. Often they will have the call display blocked so you can't identify the call. I have often found entering in the number into google results in a website appearing that you can submit the number too, and often there are other people who have also reported the calls from the same number. Essentially they are all scam calls.
I have got a new phone that can actually block numbers (if it isn't a private number), preventing the phone from ringing at all, and the caller just gets an engaged tone. But most are dialed by bots anyway.

Telcos can and do stop calls of this nature... it's not ALWAYS possible or practical, but to make a blanket statement like that based on a single experience is flawed.

Sorry for the late reply, for any nuisance/malicious calls we will need 4-6 examples (the more the better) within 72 hours with the time, date, and how long they lasted. once you have got that please call our technical support team and they can log that through and block that number if possible.
