Hi Guys

Can anyone here makes sense of this offer from slingshot?

The way I see it you get unlimited data, free modem, free Italk for $90 if you can
get on the better network and presumably be put on the better network
or have I got it wrong.

So it's a naked connection but the requirement is having your broadband, landline and calling with Slingshot. God knows how that works..

A slingshot CSR told me that the requirement is to be able to get on the better network (slingshot gear)
but you will not end up on the better network because Slingshot gear only does phone line and broadband.....
I'm confused?

So basically you have to be 'in the area' of their "Better Network" to be able to take this offer. The reason they say you will not end up on their "Better Network" is because you have to have a landline to be classified as a "Better Network" customer. In this case, you would have to be 'in the area' of their "Better Network" area, BUT they will not give you a landline. Instead they give you ITALK, Unlimited data and a free modem... for a six month contract.

Make sense? Or have I made it more confusing?

$90 for unlimited naked broadband. Isn't that the normal price from slingshot? What's so special about this offer?

Only six month contract, free Italk with 500 mins and I thought you go on their better network but hat does not seem to be the case.

Hmm what are the odds that the free modem doesn't have a built in VOIP ATA, rendering the free iTalk offer useless for most people (of course you can go out and buy a standalone ATA and configure it yourself but average Joe ain't going to do that)

To be fair to Slingshot, it is aimed at hopefully tech savy students and they may just run
soft phones for italk.

But that doesn't really work in a student flatting situation - a single iTalk account only allows one concurrently registered device, which makes it rather hard to share amongst flatmates.

I think its a bit misleading TBH, I'm sure plenty of students will sign up and not realise til they try and set it up a phone that they in fact dont get 500 free minutes on their landline. The context is that virtually all ISPs that advertise a package with a minute allowance that either works through the landline, or through a provided VoIP device (e.g. Orcon genius)

Understand what your saying, but actually I wonder if italk can have multiple devices registered at the same time like 2talk and with caller ID it may be workable. I suspect it will be used for out going calls only. I guess they could ditch italk and go with 2talk anyway.
