Hello guys, can someone here please help configure a cisco router + managed cisco switch to connect to UFB. I remember someone in the forum has provided a solution using Vlan10 tagging on a switch and then connect up ONT and router. I tried that but didn't work.

Please bear with me my network knowledge is pretty basic. Here is what I have done. Created a vlan10 and assign two ports(port 1 &2, both untagged) to it. Connect switch port1 to ONT and connect port2 to router's WAN por(DHCP on WAN port is enabled)t. And then connect router's lan port to switch.

You need to set port 1 to be a tagged port (802.1q)

Also keep in mind that the switch probably doesn't support NAT.

You need to do NAT between the external interface and the rest of your network.

The External interface will need to be using Tagged VLAN 10 not untagged. You can ignore untagged traffic on that interface.

Thanks a lot mate. If the switch doesn't support NAT, Can i set NAT in the NAT in the router? the switch we have here is SG 300-28 28-Port Gigabit Managed Switch. And router is RV042G

Thanks guys! I've managed to connect up the internet using ONT + router + switch. I have done speed test. Speed scores almost at the same level, but just the new solution seems more stable.

Now I have a new problem here. I can only access to internet if I connect a PC to one of the router's LAN ports. If I connect a PC to the managed switch pots. PC will not be able to contact router/dhcp sever to retrieve an IP address.

ONT----Port 1 (VLAN10 tagged)
Router's WAN Port ------ Port 2(VLAN 10 untagged)
PC ------ Port3
PC ------Port4
PC ------Port5
Printer ------Port6

Does anyone know what caused that problem? DO I need configure/vlan other ports on the switch so that I can connect a PC to one of switch's ports to access internet?

Yes, router's LAN port is connected to the switch.

ideally you'd shift away from the default vlan 1, and use your own internal vlan but this should not make this break/work, so i'd get things working first.

Thanks Mercutio, When I connect LAN port from Router to the managed switch. Should I use crossover cable or normal straight through?

there should be auto crossover. do you get link state?

When I disconnect cable between router's wan port and port 2. All PCs connected to the managed switch can ping both router and switch. However, when connect the cable back. All PCs on the switch will not be able to ping router but only the managed switch. Have tried creating new VLAN20 and assign ports to the VLAN20. But same problem.

Have to connect router's lan port to another unmanaged switch. Then all PCs connected to that unmanaged switch will be able to ping both managed switch and router and then surf internet.

you haven't got vlan 10 on the other ports as well have you?

ports 1/2 should be vlan 10 only. other ports should be vlan 20 or vlan 1 only, depending on which you use...

computer you do management from can be on vlan 1 too so you can connect to switch.

Setup the router to DHCP client on WAN

Setup the router with a private IP for the wan ports (ie 192.168.1.1/24) and setup a DHCP server on the router to give out 192.168.1.x IP's.

Also then setup NAT on the router to NAT to the Ip given by Orcon. You will only ever be give one IP and allow one MAC address on the WAN port. Otherwise the BNG node at Orcon will ignore you.

Thanks. for that NAT part, I just enabled that one-to-one NAT on the router. didn't set any ip range for it. with that setting, I can connect my laptop to router's LAN port and access internet without any problem.
