Seems like the Fritzbox has been updated (or should I say downgraded) in the course of the night. Its shows version 05.51 now (Its a Fritzbox 7360)

My SO was up first and there was no internet, so she pulled the power and let it boot up again. It came up with a blank setup (so on the setup wizard).

So I got the task to set it up again, luckily Snap have the details for connecting to their DSL on their site, because just entering the username/password combo did not do the trick.

One of the changes is that there is nowhere to change the DNS (except in the config file).

Anyone else experienced this kind of situation?

Had you upgraded to 6 in the past yourself?

5.51 was the most recent until Mid feb when they decided to patch a security hole and turn off SMB etc. Would find it odd for them to reflash it remotely.

Now if one of these updates could fix the random single tone ringing I'm hearing more and more people suffering from...

this sounds very odd..

assuming your running 6.03 before, going down to 5.51 shouldnt have been possible too..

Have not upgraded it myself and I have to be honest - I am not sure if it has been updated either. Just seems strange that the option to change DNS servers suddenly are gone, and it being completely blank and having to be set up via the wizard.

Wouldn't mind if the updates fixed Tinnitus, got my share of that thanks to previous life as sound technician and dealing with some heavy duty alarms (A tip, keep clear of any siren that will output 130+ dB).

lol I meant with the phone :)

3 people I know on voip.. phone rings in single pulses. not ring-ring. Including ours. Number of remote adjustments made, no dice. You use the phone setup wizard and it tests fine. Actual ring signal comes in, no pulsing.

LOL :D

Sounds like "fun". So these are DECT phones connected to the Fritz, right?

Interestingly enough, my 7360 lost its config a couple of nights ago as well and I had to redo the personalised settings. The firmware is still the same 05.51.

Time for me to ring SNAP as I'm back to the good old days of constant disconnects since I've been on this new BNG. Was on Jill now on SNAP 08.

Found an old config file and its the same firmware version that I used to have, but with no ability to set DNS servers in the web admin interface. Strangeness.

Duh! Under System -> View it was set to basic instead of advanced (as per default I guess), so I did not get to see advanced setup.

ah yes.

the basic view is pretty unhelpful...

One of the things that have stopped me upgrading is that I have been unsure which firmware to use. I am assuming I should not use the firmware for 7390 on my 7360.

thats like saying im assuming i should not use an AMD driver on a Intel system.

you need to the correct firmware for your hardware.

for vdsl, 5.21/5.22 where possible. IIRC the 7360 will only go as low as 5.51  though, inwhich case 5.51 is the best firmware.

the 6.0 firmwares seem to be very dodgy..

for fiber though, the main issue relating to the modem driver in the firmwares, is obviously moot.
