A nice quick question :)

My flat's looking at getting UFB but we're cheap and a pair of us still use landline phones. One of these phones in particular is a fancypants steampunk-esque phone that she really wants to keep working. One solution that we thought up for our single-phone-jack problem is to grab a double adapter and run an extension for the second phone.

However, I know precious little about the technology behind VOIP and the like. Will these old things still work with the UFB modem?

Yes, provided that your Voip adapter supports analogue phones and has that sort of socket.

If it is some sort of fancy pants Voip solution (e.g. Orcon Genius) with a built in cordless phones then I don't know the answer.

Nah mate, just a simple old yellowed cordless phone and the above thing, nothing fancy tech-wise. Thanks for the info. :)

Your jack points wont work when you have UFB installed ( the Router gets pluged into the ONT and not a Jackpoint) - your old wireing for the jackpoints {known as Legacey Wireing} will not be used to deliver phone service unless your provider requests that it be converted to connect ooff the 'Phone' output of the router - then you can reuse the jackpoints for voice.

Yes you can, but you're going to need more than just a BT double adapter since all RGW's (and the ONT) only use RJ11 for voice output. You'll either want a RJ11 voice splitter or a RJ11->BT socket lead.

I know some of those words :D. I get the gist though -- the modem wants RJ11 so adapt to that. Thanks guys.

It's pretty cool, though a few of the "metal" bits are just shiny plastic (looks obvious close up).

He is telling you you can easily use your existing house jackpots as the "double adapter", assuming you don't want your two landline phones in the same room that could be quite useful.

But yes to answer the question in the simplest way, the phone port off the modem will support more than one phone connected to it.

If there is a bell in the fake vintage phone (its not steampunk as it has no brass gears on it) may cause problems. My spirit of st louus field phone

That'd be cool, but I wouldn't want to eff with the wiring of this rented house. Unless there's an easy non-intrusive way? :O

Its a standard part of a UFB install if requested. You are not effing with it, and its not your problem anyway as the next person will probably want it anyway since the copper wiring would just be disconnected doing nothing if it was not to be done.
