Hi All

a cow-orker has asked me if there is any way to schedule Wifi on/off time with the orcon genius router, or if there is a quicker way to turn the wifi (while leaving lan online) without logging in to the web interface?....or...if both of these things cannot be done does anybody use a modem with orcon that includes a physical wifi switch (like some laptops have)? If so...what brand/model is it?

I have a feeling his wife is one of those paranoid types that doesnt like wifi on all night as it is giving her leprosy or something.

thanks

An access point on a timer wall plug. Turn off the WiFi in the Genius.

Old School, but will work.

true that! didnt consider it, unecessary expense though. does the genius router allow telnet/ssh connection? probably dreaming but being able to set up cron job would be great, could script something for that.

or they have kids and want to limit their internet usage. been there.

Ubiquiti APs can turn it off/on though an API and per device. You can schedule this by running a python script.

But a timer plug may be the cheap easy option.

My Genius (black one) does have scheduled internet access controls (Advanced Settings -> Access control and parental control tools). It allows setting a start and end time for each week day. It may be sufficient for what you want.

hah I was right, his missus is mental. She insists that wifi keeps her awake at night and she wont let him keep his phone in the bedroom and makes him turn the wifi off at night which means he cant access the internet after she has gone to sleep. cray-zee.

Anyway, in an unrelated issue I just got the white genius router which has a wifi enable/disable switch on the side so I have recommended that to him as it will probably serve his purposes better than scheduling.

Unless they live in the sticks what does she do about anyone else's WiFi?....

I tried many arguments but the look of sheer resignation on my friends face suggests he has suffered fruitlessly through such arguments in the past.
Plus I guess the placebo is the strongest medicine so if she believes in it enough it probably does make an impact on her perception of sleep.

I personally would have opted to respond to "I need you turn turn off the wifi at night" with "STFU or GTFO", but that's just me.
