...I have a few questions the sales team don't seem to be able to answer conclusively, so I thought I'd ask here.

I already have UFB under a different provider and due to a comedy of errors from my current provider from day one I decided to move.

MR offers internet tv as part of the package on UFB, however I have a Roku3 and tried making it work for Netflix, Hulu etc without success - and yes I have tried UnblockUS and Unotelly also without luck.

The sales people at MR tell me it should work with them.  I asked them if they have other customers using Roku3 working with thier system I was put through the support team. The guy there told me they have solved most of the problems for customers using Roku3 and it works with them by changing the DNS in the Roku itself.  I am not sure this can be done and so was not assured the support person was being factual or just guessing.

Are any of you using Roku3 with MR and is it working without the need for paid third party software?

MR looks good on paper but I have read of fair share disappointed customers and I am a little wary now, hence the question here.

I am not trying to offend the people at MR, it's not my intention, but I need facts before I go ahead and pay $200 early disconnection fees with current provider and lock myself in for $250 with MR and find out it is not going to work for me.

I would like to read from Marc as well on this.

Thanks in advance for all your help.

Regards
Roberto

I'm with MR & use a Roku3.
I don't use any other dns unblocked now.
There was an issue with Netflix but I think that was an update to the Roku nf app.
I got round this by blocking both google dns within the router. Works fine now.

There were some other teething issues with MR, but everything is now sweet.

I found Caleb & Kim great to work with & they kept me up to date with progress. I'd recommend giving MR a go.

Thanks Stuzz, your answer helps immensely and yes I am really keen to give them a go, however my wife wants a phone number that reflect our area and MR cannot disclose what number they can allocate - now I have to convince my wife to accept any phone number :)

You should be able to keep your phone number... also a number always has to reflect your calling area, there is no way around that.  The new numbers that MR have to hand out will not match Telecom exchanges, that's for sure.

We were able to keep our previous number.

That is one of the reasons/issues we are changing. We wanted the numbe unlisted and unfortunately our curren isp did not listen and listed it everywhere. We'll need a new, unlisted number.

Not sure the number has to reflect the area one is in, maybe with telecom/spark, however with vodafone, as an example I know of, the number starts with 211 after the area code. Very different from our area numbers.

You may not have much choice then. If you need a new number, then it may be a blessing

+1

I changed to MR 2 weeks ago and found the customer service and service itself excellent

I haven't yet used the Internet TV service so I cannot comment on that but what has been excellent has been

 - the Internet performance [and I'm on CG-NAT so not public IP]
 - the customer service
 - the voice port [I kept my old number]

So far very very happy

Netflix doesn't work with Roku 3 on my MyRepublic connection.  I have a ticket open about this.

I have a fancy mikrotik router so could paper over the problem (DNS requests sent to 8.8.8.8 which MyRepublic don't redirect).  Orcon does this for you.

I got a Port 2 install (already have Orcon fibre) and a new number, and the new number is so awesome that I am wondering about porting it to 2talk before I port my Orcon number to MyRepublic.  Except that's probably a bit rude...

You will not get a number out of a Telecom (Spark Analogue?) range.  That's the case with anyone who sells you a new number over VoIP.  If you really want a normal looking local number, get a new number on a copper landline, then port it.  We have a number from the Orcon range and have to tell everyone "yes that really is a local number."

How long has your ticket been open with them, DL?It seems to be working with Ruzz, I understand from what I have read above, so I wonder why it isn't working for you.

Have the people at MR been helpfu;l and knowledgeable over this issue and they think it they can make it work?

Sorry about all the questions, but I need to know the Roku3 works with them without a third party software etc.

What I have found interesting is a comment made by a support person I was made to talk to about this issue. This person pretty much laughed at my query and said they can make it work by changind the DNS inside the Roku3 - yes I queried whether I heard that right and he confirmed they can change the DNS in the Roku itself. I understand this is not possible and makes me real jittery about switching into some approximative service.
