I figured that with the three carriers having fairly similar plans, it might be time for 2Degrees to try and further differentiate themselves again.
Apparently that's going to happen tomorrow (16 Feb). I'm told by a senior staff member via Twitter that there'll be a new simplified plan line-up, "huge data options", and the ability to get a new phone every year.
I'm looking forward to it as the market has been a bit quiet of late.
In my experience, big changes like this one appears to be often leave some people feeling like they're worse off, so it'll be interesting to see what's on offer, and whether existing plans are grandfathered.
Insufficient data on NZ mobile carriers has always been a criticism here, so if they really are being bold in this area, it could make a big difference, particularly if that data continues to carry over and can continue to be shared across devices.

They've taken out the entire outer wrap of the NZ Herald. 4 full pages. A little lacking in the details of the annual upgrade option I feel. Will look more into it later.

Nice, perfecting timing as my wife's plan is due for renewal shortly.

I got a text this morning saying my $69 share everything plan was going to have a data increase from 2GB per month to 5GB per month.

Wow! If this kind of generosity is across all other plans, then I may have to jump ship too!

Thanks.

So no increase for the $29 and $39 by the looks, 1GB more for the $49, 3GB more for the $69.

It does sound like there will be more to it than just this though, yay :-)

Still, if my number wasn't tied to monthly payments on a phone with a competitor....

I'm on the $29 plan and I'm currently getting 1Gb as that was the deal when I signed up to it originally. From that point of view this is a step backwards.

I'm in the same position and hope they will continue to grandfather the 1GB for those of us who signed up for that.

Same - and I don't see the point of the $25 Familyshare option either. Doesn't sound that good unless you're a high talk user.

The family share option already existed as $29/month/number.
It's useful for people that talk, text, and use data, and also want to have everything on one post-paid bill.

According to the call centre, those of us who were receiving 1gb on the $29 plan will continue to do so as long as the current contract is active.

The only advantages I see is if you a high talk user and need the unlimited talk time, that and the one bill.

Otherwise you're better off signing everyone else on the $19 prepaid pack and data share with them. They get the same unlimited text, talk time is limited at 100min but they get their own 500MB data before data sharing.

And you save $6 per month per extra user.

If you are all high data users and within zone, buy a 12GB Data Zone pack for $99 which gives you 6 months to use it.
