Last night my router to Orcon lost connection and I did not find out till this morning. This is a real pain if I am not home I cannot reset my router. This seems to happen fairly often. I need the system up all the time is there anything one can do to ensure that the system does not get shut down?

Fibre connection Netcom Router Genius service. Router just stops always at nights. Not sure why. Maybe they are doing upgrades or something. Only solution is to turn off Router and then back on.
It's a nuisance as we lose phone connection at same time and we have no idea that someone is trying to call us. Yes Genius does send an email for missed calls but we don't receive emails as circuit is down.

The occasional drop is not uncommon, so it depends on what you mean by "fairly often."

If you're experiencing a high number of drops then there are a number of things that could be wrong, you'd need to give our tech team a call on 0800 13 14 15 in the first instance so they can do some checks and potentially lodge a fault.

O am not so worried about it dropping more that it cannot reconnect itself after a drop. Imagine of you had to reset your power after every power outage
Surely it would be possible to have software in router that can detect outage and reset the router if it is still down after 30 minutes.

I had a modem issue where the Genius line would stop working, this turned out to be a problem with the building wiring.

Never assume everything at your home end is 100%, check everything, I wish I had.
I ended up feeling rather foolish when I had though I had changed something in the house phone line wiring, but I hadn't.

Sorted now though!

A quick suggestion, try putting a UPS in to power the Router - I do this for my ONT and Router - never had an issue (other them the one I created)

Thanks Orcon
