Hi All,

We're slated to get fibre in our street in about 6 months, but VDSL is showing as available now.

Would you recommend waiting for fibre, or going for VDSL? (and potentially moving to fibre later)

Also - if I get a static IP now on ADSL, will that transfer if I move to VDSL/fibre?

Cheers,

Jeremy

If you won't get stuck on a contract then it might be worth going for VDSL now; it can sometimes take months to get fibre installed once it's in your street!

Hi there,

As mentioned above UFB can take some time to install, so if you want faster speeds quickly then VDSL is a good option. Starting a new VDSL plan means you'll have a new 12 month contract, but we won't charge you for cancelling it when you upgrade to UFB later (which will also have a fresh 12 month term).

On the static IP, you won't be able to keep the same IP. It'll change once when you swap from VDSL to UFB, but once you're on UFB that's what it will stay as.

I hope this helps!

Cheers,

Cam

Thanks both.

And apologies if this is a FAQ, but is there a way to get a better idea of VDSL eligibility/performance for a particular location rather just the Chorus website pre-qual check? If I call the Orcon helpdesk, will they understand what I'm asking?

Cheers,

Jeremy

If you PM me with your address I can take a look and give you a rough idea on distance to your cabinet/exchange and whether or not that means you can expect good performance - but for actual line rates, not really, it depends on too many things that we can't see.

Jeremy Upgrade,

Give it a go the extra speeds will allow you new experiences you could not have with ADSL.

Once you go fast you will never go back to slow internet again.... after UFB VSDL seems like dialup.
