Just had a doorknocker then claiming that I am getting pretty poor speeds on my broadband and that I should upgrade to MyRepublics Gigabit plan. He then pulled out his phone on the Chorus maps showing I was on 200/200Mbit and was saying that my ISP wasn't giving the best speeds I can possibly get. He then proceeded to say that with MyRepublic I'd get much faster speeds than I currently have and that MyRepublic buys more bandwidth than any other ISP and they have no contention or speed issues anywhere on their network.

I then pulled out my phone from my pocket - explained that the test I am doing is over WiFi and on a phone so will not reach the full speed of my plan and ran a speedtest getting 470/400Mbit over WiFi. He asked how much I payed for my plan and I simply said "much less than you could ever offer". He quickly left.

What annoyed me was he was using the fact the Chorus maps are currently showing outdated data due to the (very) recent 1000/500Mbit upgrades to say that MyRepublic in all cases will be faster for those on UFB - he didn't believe me the first time when I said I already was happy on a Gigabit connection.

Anyway, a bit of entertainment for tonight...

I had one come here telling me that they had their own gear and the speeds would be faster than what I had with my current ISP, and that I should change. BS sales people will never get my business.

Very satisfying Michael.

I honestly thought you were going to say "I pulled out my phone showing him the thread with all the MR speed complaints and problems".

But that was even better.

Can't really show them all the speed complaints as they seem to be curing them.

Was very slow to get solved and their handling of it was IMO total crap.

To be fair, pretty much all ISP's have that have had speed issues over the years have done so very slowly and with crappy communication.

It got solved a lot faster than some.

Yes, their handling of it was not the best: pretty crap is probably the feeling that most of us have.

The bit that p****d me off the most was their total denial of the problem, knowing full well that they were doing an upgrade with the impending gigabit roll-out. Would have been better PR if they had acknowledged the issue and advised that they were working on an upgrade that would fix the problem. Now they have a heap of clients that will probably not believe them next time there is an issue.

I have got a sticker like that on my door.

Have seen a Vodafone rep walk up to the front door and leave.

Works for some people but not the religious groups as technically they are not selling stuff! but only their ideology.

cheers

@mattwnz That's actually quite a good idea. Will grab one. Always get doorknockers from different ISP's but none like the MR guy last night.

I've heard a new MR ad a few times on the radio today. It seems MR are jealous of Trust Power being charged and convicted by the Commerce Commission and are begging to be found guilty as well.

I took that sticker and added underneath:

No salespeople
No religious groups
No charities

I have CCTV on the front door so it's satisfying to see them read it and leave. So far the only groups to ignore it are Trustpower.

Were they trying to sell internet services too? These power companies should stick to their core business IMO. The other bad one for door knocking is companies selling overpriced LED lights. They were very pushy and hard to get rid of. Most seem to be working on a commission basis, which I think should be banned for door knockers, as it makes them pushy.

That was one of the plus points about living in rural setting, no door knockers, and no junk mail.

We have a furry response for door knockers. He goes absolutely mental when people come down the drive, and if they aren't put off and come up to the door, he runs to the gate right next to the door which he could jump no problem if wanted to, and goes off at them there. Even the couriers wont get out of their van.
