their performance may have increased a little but there really has not been much positive said about them on this forum

OK guys, what is so wrong with MyRepublic that would make me change to another ISP?

I am on the 100/20 plan with free local and national phone calls for $99 per month.

Speeds are a consistent 105/21 at any time of day.

I am on the Enable fibre network in Christchurch.

Speaking from experience (not just saying this because everyone else is saying it).

Don't join MyRepublic. I even joked about joining them as an April fools joke this year (yes, they're that bad). I still get doorknockers asking me to join and offering me free stuff in order to try and get me but nope.

Spark, 2degrees, Voyager, BigPipe not at all in order.

All you need to do is read Geekzone with peoples experiences with them. They claim a whole lot of marketing bull however it is proven time and time again they never deliver on their facts. Support is god damn awful after the initial signup phase, their network is routed via Auckland (like BigPipe) but it gets worse with saying the network in itself is pretty terrible.

It is like they've hacked an ISP out of thin air on the cheap and threw a whole lot of marketing jargon at it. Generally they're not well received by many people (including myself) and there is a whole lot of better providers for the same price if not cheaper.

Loads of misleading advertising and they were also fined by the ASA and I still hear misleading ads on the radio today

Given that nearly all NZ internet arrives via Auckland, could someone please tell me why routing an internet network via Auckland is a bad thing ?

It really isn't a bad thing. I'm on BigPipe so my internet goes via Auckland however this is another factor to decide since they're near enough to the same price as the bigger players who have PoP's all over the country. Basically means if you're in Dunedin and try and access a server in a datacentre in Dunedin it goes up to Auckland and back down again.

Honestly isn't that bad but just more something to consider. They're pretty expensive when you factor this in.

Been on MR for maybe 2.5 years. $99pm for 100/20 free local/national calls, as mentioned above. Very little trouble in general. Speed generally fine, on rare occasions no internet, but nothing that restarting a router doesn't fix. Haven't had much contact with support but was OK the last time I tried maybe a year ago. You only hear from people when things go wrong. Wasn't I reading, yesterday, about someone on Bigpipe with no internet for 9 days ?

Having said that, I'm not a gamer or expert on Internet or routing or traceroutes - I can stream Netflix etc and if it still slows in the evening it doesn't actually seem to affect anything much. They probably do overdo the advertising somewhat though.

Having said that again, have considered switching, but Bigpipe (say) don't operate here, Voyager (I think) do, but you have to use their own router, and pay for it if you want a phone, 2Degrees and Spark cost a bit more (and may well be better as a result) but don't particularly see the point yet.

Definitely wouldn't go for a 2 year contract though.

Well said. Some people have no issues at all however the issues and complains outweigh the positive experiences with them even while taking into consideration the fact people are more likely to complain.

With that BigPipe issue it appears there was more some confusion regarding Chorus - likely something more to it too.

I certainly recommend them.

Been with MP for 3 years and had constant 100/20 ++ on the 100/20 plan. NEVER less unless wireless!

Static IP was a one off cost of $20.00

When I have had to call them, I have had prompt, professional service.

So good that I have lodged a ticket in the past to congratulate them and requested that it be past on to management.

As previously mentioned, a far larger number of people are quick to complain but silent when all is well which prompted me to reply for that reason.

I am free of contract but have NO desire to change!

So there isn't a good reason to change from MR to any of the other ISP's if you are getting good service?

I've been on Voyager for quite some time now, I pay $99 a month for unlimited VDSL, static IP, phone with national calling. Yes, you do use their router if you want phone service but its just a standard SIP connection, so if you talk to them might be able to come up with something without having to pay "rent" on their unit.

Vodafone were going to charge me $160 for the same thing, they dropped it to $120 when I said I was leaving, but $20 in my pocket is better than theirs ;)

I'm quite surprised that I am going to agree with this...

I moved to them before the complaints started and certainly had a few issues.

But these days we are pretty heavy Netflix/Youtube/Cloud services users with no issues.

I check out other ISP's every few months and haven't really found an offer to tempt us away.
