Has anyone been receiving a large number of overseas calls from +61 or +44 advisng you to buy bitcoin or invest in it?

A friend of mine also has been receiving a lot of calls and this started happening more frequently after new years.

They would call 3 times at different times of the day.

Just wondering if anyone else is affected?

Yup, I've been getting loads of calls from +44 numbers. Most of them don't connect for me, only once has someone actually talked to me.

Boss was getting up to 4 a day from them at random times. Same block numbering with differing last digits.

I forget the marketing name, but yes. It was investment scams and they are VERY persistent even if you say not interested (and don't have the option to ignore the call due to nature of business)

They even left a VM going 'hello? are you there? hello sir?...' for a while. Usual auto-dialler xfer to call taker so theres a gap and it thought his VM had answered

I also have gotten more calls from +4422 numbers in the last few weeks.

I just use the red button on the calling screen and that drops the call - not sure if it goes to voicemail or not; don't care, no-one leaves a message anyway.

(It probably helps that I can refuse the call from my watch without even needing to dig my phone out of my pocket - +1 for smartwatches!)

I was getting 2-4 calls a day from +4422 numbers so Ive ended up just blocking the entire range.

I've seen a few. Maybe a dozen since new year. I never answer. I figure if it's a genuine call whoever is calling will leave a message. They never do.

They just won't stop .

Ive been using an app to block the number range of +61 and +44 . They call like 3 times a day.

I hope they stop

In this case he's stated "after New Years" which infers New Years Day, this is how the term "New Years" is commonly used.

And as for the OP, I've definitely seen an increase of our customers saying the same thing.

I had a VERY persistent called from a +4420 number last night.

First they called 3 times (I wasn't answering because I didn't recognise the number)
On the first call in quick succession I answered (figuring it must have been important)
Foreign man, extremely long delays on the line
The man knew my first name and said he was calling from a trading company I had expressed interest in (didn't catch the name)
I abruptly said "I'm not interested thank you - please don't call again"
He immediately dialed back. "Look I said I'm not interested - please don't call again"
He immediately dialed back. "You're very persistent - please stop calling"
He immediately dialed back. I simply answered and hung up.
I then added the number to my blocked callers (never had to use this function before)

I just couldn't believe how persistent this guy was and how aggressively it felt. What on earth made him think if I wasn't interested the first 5 calls he was going to have any luck on the sixth?

I had one of those a few months back. Wanted to sign me up for a share deal, charge it to my credit card.

So I acted dumb, played along, eventually he asked for my cc number, googled fake card number while talk to him. Give him the number missing a digit once or twice to drag it out. Eventually he got the whole number right, started trying to change it... declined...declined...declined. Eventually he got angry, said what's up with my card... I said... "it' b**s**t just like you mate" and started laughing at him. He went nuts, I didn't hang up as it was so fulfilling hearing him lose his rag.

never got a call back.
