So I'm trying to use my Asus DSL-AC68U modem/router with my current fibre plan. I have got an internet connection after following the steps here

I also tried using this thread for help but seeing as its on spark there's nothing really relative there for me

My issue is that when i do a speed test I'm only getting 20mbps download and 9.9mbps upload. Prior to using the modem today i was getting around 900 down and 500 up. My settings look exactly like they do in the picture on the pbtech link

Any help would be much appreciated and I'm not too tech savvy so if it's anything technical if you can simplify instructions would be awesome.

Hi, so just the obvious, you are connecting to the router via ethernet cable, ie no wireless involved?

Under the Adaptive QoS tab, can you turn any action off, I am not sure what options are on that tab as I am not that farmiliar with this device, but that is one I would check.

Are you sure you're connected with a good cable and at full duplex? That sounds like the sort of thing you'd get if you were negotiating at say 100Mbps half duplex.

I'm not sure what the latest is with the performance of those routers is, I'm pretty sure that model couldn't actually get close to routing at Gigabit speeds.

Is it a dsl-ac68u or a RT-AC68U is that not for a dsl line. I have the RT-AC68U and get 850/500 all day every day.

I'm running a wired connection and its a dsl-ac68u with the latest firmware update you can run fibre through it so i've read and seen

Thanks as well. I turned QoS off and straight away got the speeds i was after

Do you just want the Asus router for better Wifi?

You could keep the Orcon router as your GW, turn off the Wifi and use the Asus for Wifi in bridge mode.

Nah i wanted it because it cost me a lot of money and didn't want to sell it. I would have done that but i use the Netduma R1 for my gaming so it goes Asus>Netduma>devices. didnt want to go Orcon>Asus>Netduma>devices

@Hoooitz Just FYI - I would strongly recommend removing that Netduma router from the mix. It'll actually be slowing things down for you... Just use the Asus and thats it. You're on Gigabit Fibre so nothing will actually slow down your gaming / the router they use is not at all powerful enough to actually handle this or do anything.

Trust me I know - I've tried one of these in the past and it actually made everything on the network worse. Just another snake oil product marketed towards gamers.

Yeah Im actually thinking about selling it now and getting a netgear xr500. I enjoyed the netduma when i was using vdsl though

@Hoooitz Nope, don't even do that. It is a total waste of money. Don't get suckered in to networking products with the word "Gaming" as it actually won't do anything for you.

If you want the best performance grab an Ubiquiti USG + UniFi Switch + UniFi AC-Pro access point or a Grandstream GWN7000 + GWN7610 access point. It'll beat this in every way with performance and offer you far more features. There is a link in my signature with router recommendations.

Erm I thought you were replacing your Asus router and thus would have wanted WiFi for your smartphones, laptop etc. If you're just needing it to plug your "gaming devices" into then just buy one of these for less than $40... Don't get another router as you'll end up in a double-NAT situation which is the absolute worst.

Really - you don't need another router. Your Asus is totally fine and will do the job well. Save your money and just buy a Switch but get rid of that Netduma off your network as it'll be slowing everything down and creating problems for you.

Wow - that is a waste of money for just that.

Do your research. Look at options like dns4me for example which will do this for next to nothing - you can use your existing router too. You don't need to buy a router to get this.

Edit: Just noted you're likely wanting this for console gaming. If that is the case ensure you're removing your Asus and this is the only router on your network. It is still however very very expensive for what you're getting.

I also have a DSL-AC68U and a new Orcon fiber connection. I'm getting 950Mbps/420Mbps wired with the Orcon box but the wifi range is bad, I've had to recommission my extender for upstairs.

The LED's on the Orcon modem are insanely bright and light up a large room. Most of the light comes from the vents on the top so can't be covered over. I'd love to get my old modem working.

I loved the ASUS unit, the interface is awesome, the range and speed was amazing. I could hot plug my HDD directly into it and movies or any files could be accessed from all over the house, I could prioritize traffic, etc.

PBtech said it would work with fiber when I bought it and I think I've searched all the same sites you have, OP. I've followed the PBtech settings and all I get is failed to connect DHCP.

Would it be any use to this thread if I posted pictures of the setup pages?

For the record, I'm a dummy when it comes to networking. I'm a lathe operator.

Hi, there is nothing to stop you using the Asus as a wireless AP and turn the wireless in the Orcon unit off, just turn DHCP off in the Asus and link it to the Orcon unit via one of its LAN ports with nothing on the Asus WAN port. You wont get much sense out of the traffic management, but using it as a HDD for movies will still work.
