Looking at putting Rural Broadband in at the Bach at Opito Bay in the Coromandel.

There is an existing Vodafone tower that I know offers RBI, and I can see a new 2D tower went live in June 2020 (https://gis.geek.nz/map/celltowers/location/xydlmoay), however, the 2D coverage map isn't showing any coverage.

Does 2D RBI work on the RCG sites? or only on their own network? or is the 2D coverage map just not showing the new site?

Anyone able to shed any light (from 2D or otherwise?)

Each RCG site has the three large telcos plus up to one WISP.

From experience it takes a few weeks from the RCG on air date to the date the telcos start providing service following testing etc.

I imagine each telcos has a process for updating their coverage maps that only happens every so often.

If you see a _S_ at the start of the site name for 2degrees (e.g. _S_OPITO BAY RELOCATE for the site you're asking about) it usually means it's a MoRAN service. Basically 2degrees service being provided on their own frequency (4G LTE 700MHz and UMTS 900MHz) using Vodafone's gear (as opposed to the previous arrangement where 2degrees customers roamed on Vodafone UMTS 900/2100 with a significant speed limitation). These new 2degrees services have gone online progressively since the announcement in June last year so coverage maps might not be updated yet. Not sure if the rollout is complete yet but I have seen 2degrees MoRAN in action in the Franklin/Waikato area recently.

Just had a proper look at the 2degrees coverage map for rural broadband. I now see that the covage area for the rural broadband product is quite limited. Quite possible the MoRAN service is not included in their rural broadband offer (either not yet or they don't intend to).

Not complete yet, no, but not every Vodafone tower will be upgraded to MoRAN.

iPad Pro 11" + iPhone 15 Pro Max + 2degrees 4tw!

These comments are my own and do not represent the opinions of 2degrees.

Thanks, I don't think I implied it would be rolled out to all Vodafone towers but thanks for that clarification. As I mentioned just look at the 2degrees site name in GIS.geek.nz and spot the lone 'S' letter at the start indicating MoRAN. Easy to see that it's only being done on selected sites.
