After 3 weeks on the Orcon network, our broadband basically stopped working.  The modem was connecting OK, but we couldn't see anything at the Orcon end (gateway, DNS, etc.).  After going through their standard diagnostics with Orcon, they did a "port reset" which fixed the problem.

What is this?  Has anyone else had this happen?

BTW, have had to phone Orcon 3 times in the last month for various faults.  I got straight through to someone twice and waited a couple of minutes the 3rd time.  Their service has been great, apart from the time that someone said they'd call back but didn't.

I too have had ups and downs with Orcon, while the service is great, the consistancy is not.

before I joined Orcon, i had to call up xtra 0 times in the last 6 months for faults. I've now called Orcon about 5 times after being with them for 3 weeks.

While, with Orcon my pings have plummeted, my download speed has risen, however in the last 3 weeks, I've had my connection cut out for 45 minutes at a time about 6 times. I've called Orcon out, they have done port resets, turned interleaving on and off still no fix, some of these outages they have balmed on "upgrades" but my problem is, if it is upgrades, why do they not at least send me an email telling me my internet will be out for 45 minutes on "this day".

Evereyone in my household is starting to get annoyed at their "upgrades" which seem to happen mor often than not, so Orcon while your service is good, it's only good when it actually works.

I've had a couple of outages for a few mins here and there, nothing worth reporting and they usually fix it as soon as I call which is great.

When I call, if they have a queue running, I know they are busy, so I give it half an hour and try again. Eventually you'll get through in a minute or two.

5 outages in three weeks? We have had one, on Thurs, which required a port reset (the port is where you plug into at the exchange) to fix it.

A port reset is like restarting your modem. about 90% of DSL faults are restored by restarting the modem. If that fails, a port reset will fix about 70% of remaining failed link faults. If that still fails, you're got a dodgy line or there's something big going on somewhere that may take a while to lfind and fix.

Orcon's reliability is a concern.  I never had to call them at all until we went on their LLU network.  Since then, we've had phone and broadband problems that have required a number of calls to sort out.  But so far, everything has been fixed promptly.  I'm hoping that things improve...

yeah it's messed up, what happens is The Online light on the OrconhomeHub goes off, once its off it stays off for excatly 45mins each time, this has happend about 6 times in the last 3 weeks. Now when it goes off, no matter how many times turn it on and off, reset the modem etc just won't come back online unless I wat 45minutes. Orcon have tried a few things with no success. They say when my online light on the router goes off, I am getting a connection from teh exchange but for some reason they dont know why, my router isn't sending my username and password to Orcon's server, wtf...
