Can other GZ 2Degrees customers with either of the "official, supplied by 2Degrees" models of Fritz!box 7490 or 7530 confirm you see the same thing as me?

Namely that the Guest WiFi option outlined by avm is missing from the UI?

https://en.avm.de/service/fritzbox/fritzbox-7530/knowledge-base/publication/show/294_Setting-up-Wi-Fi-guest-access-in-the-FRITZ-Box/

https://en.avm.de/service/fritzbox/fritzbox-7490/knowledge-base/publication/show/294_Setting-up-Wi-Fi-guest-access-in-the-FRITZ-Box/

I don't usually use the built-in wireless on my Fritz!box (usually use an external Aerohive WAP or 3), but I am troubleshooting problematic internet, well, problems (after moving house - subject for a different post!) and wanted to eliminate everything except for the router itself and so wanted to enable the Fritz!box WLAN.

Unfortunately, I have a routine requirement for Guest WLAN, using a separate SSID with distinct PSK (not a problem with a proper WAP of course!), so I couldn't test this any longer than at an hour at a time, which isn't so useful for troubleshooting my problem. It's been so long since I used WiFi on a Fritz!box, that the last time I did so, was on the venerable 7340! 😲.

I'm 100% certain that the 7340 model (per very very early UFB trials on Enable Networks in CHC) does support a separate SSID for Guest WiFi - if I look hard enough I can probably even produce a printed sheet of A4 with the "no longer current" 2x SSIDs & PSK QR codes, for easy scanning on mobile phones!

I have tried enabling Advanced options in the Fritz!OS UI on both model 7490 and 7530 units I have here and poking around but cannot find Guest WiFi option.

I also tried enabling the Guest LAN option first (thinking the two ie LAN & WLAN functions may be related):

https://en.avm.de/service/fritzbox/fritzbox-7530/knowledge-base/publication/show/949_Setting-up-LAN-guest-access-in-the-FRITZ-Box/

Still don't see the Guest Wifi option I want - has it been removed from the 2Degrees-customised f/w?

If so, why on earth? And is it possible to get that put BACK in on next release?

It's super-useful, especially these days to have a slightly "skunk" network you can use for the super-untrustworthy IoT devices that will probably never see an update and we can't tell who they're phoning home to... (and don't allow them to "see" the devices on the MAIN network)

Cheers,

Bryan

Hey mate,

I've checked my 7490 (running Fritz!OS 7.21) and was able to setup guest wifi by going into WiFi -> Guest Access.

Cheers

What firmware version is installed? As above, I also see "Guest Access" under Wi-Fi, but I'm still running 7.21 (not the available 7.26) on the 7490 units here.

People often mistake me for an adult because of my age.

Keep calm, and carry on posting.

Aww man I am feeling ripped off... πŸ˜†on the 7490, when it was on v7.21, I didn't have that option, and I upgraded to v7.26 last night , still looks like this:

yes - that's with the Advanced view toggled ON (TBH the two views look the same to me - maybe that's a sign somethin ain't right?)

To add insult to injury, I thought I might have had an issue with the 7490, so I rang 2D and asked for the latest model Fritz!box.

They sent the 7530 and it seems like those ones have slightly less good WiFi than the 7490 (not that I was using it).

Maybe they sent me a lemon.

Paid $150 for it as well, I realise these cost much more than that retail, but anyway, thanks folks for confirming you see that option, not sure why mine doesn't exist...

Anyone have a cunning idea what the issue may be?

Tonight I'll try a factory reset, but really that 7530 at least was brand new outta the box...

Ok, this is embarrassing, but I figured out the problem...

Since I already asked for help here (thanks to all who replied - appreciated! 😌) I better 'fess up to my mess up!

The Guest Access option doesn't exist if the WLAN (main) radios are disabled.

Once you enable those, the Guest option appears, lo & behold!

Case closed, we can file this one under "don't try to be fixing things too far after midnight when I should be asleep instead!" πŸ˜‚

As I was scrolling through the new replies, I was thinking to myself that radios are disabled πŸ˜‚

Glad you got it sussed.

Cheers
