Hey guys, cheers for any help you can provide.

I've been a customer with 2degrees since we had Fibre installed at our place last year. The six months or so the connection worked great and was a vast improvement over Vodafone HFC, but over the past several months it's been getting progressively slower, and has just about come to a halt over the lockdown period.

We're on the 900/400 plan, in the months leading up to lockdown we were getting around 400Mbps at night, 250-350 during the day. Over the lockdown period, this has slumped to 80-200Mbps, and with 4 people working/studying from home, is starting to cause some issues. All Speedtests were done over Ethernet.

We're running an Asus RT-AC3200 and all of our connections are either Ethernet or 5Ghz Wifi. We're using Cat6 cabling and all of our computers are well capable of the connection's full speed, so not sure what's causing the issue here. Have tried to reach out to 2degrees but lockdowns have made customer service difficult, we're at a dead end and would appreciate any suggestions/help to increase our speed.

Ummmm why previously where you only getting 400Mb/s, it should be over twice that, have you tried the 2deg supplied router, if you never achieved 900ish then purhaps your router is at fault.

Only test over Ethernet 99% of issues related to Fibre speed come back to the customers network and are you testing to the nearest 2d server?

Edit: Also test using the 2degrees router

My 2degrees Gb Fibre connection over WiFi peaks at 800Mbps and the WiFi is not even ax aka WiFi 6

All the tests I've done to check have been over Ethernet. 2degrees Auckland server is my go-to for speed testing and hasn't gone above about 420Mbps this year.

Your Asus is a very old router a quick check of reviews indicates it's unlikely to keep up, except with the marketing hype.

Have you ever achieved 900+ mbps on speed test app ever ?  If not try with new router or no router for testing purposes,

I would expect very early morning results to be perfect, If not then it would most likely be on your side.

ASUS routers with a PPPoE ISP is at best trash.

I say this whilst owning one and I can tell you that it handles IPoE way better.

OP get the 2d supplied Fritzbox.

But in the mean time the old HG659 should be fine to test.

Hey there,

Seconding recommendations that you should be using our supplied equipment for the best experience. 2degrees are also unable to troubleshoot speeds for you without this.

If you don't want to wait on the phone, flick us a message on Facebook or Twitter and the team will be happy to help.

Cheers,

Morgan

I've got a similar model Asus router and it still works fine (I get ~900/500Mbps) with the following caveats;

Ensure that IPv6 is DISABLED in the router.

Ensure that HW Accelerated NAT is ENABLED.

Without these settings, the CPU can't cope - these things are getting on a bit now.

Make sure your firmware is up-to-date as well, there was one firmware version on mine about a year back that crippled performance.

That said - I ran a speedtest just now, and I'm only getting about 200/200, must be all the kids playing Fortnite.
