Hey all,

Is NZ Comms finally about to launch?  A quick search through IPONZ trademark registrations has a trademark application by Watpat Shell No 1 Limited for Two Degrees Mobile.  Watpat can be contacted through Minter Ellison Rudd Watts, an Auckland based legal firm.  Companies Office also have a reservation for Two Degrees Ltd and Two Degress Mobile Ltd.  I would expect some prelaunch marketing activity in the new year...

Their rollout is progressing farily quickly but there is still a lot to do. Apparently they are hoping to be live by the time Telecom launch their new network.

What's the bet that they launch, go bankrupt inside 12 months then sell it off to TelstraClear??

I've moved this to the existing NZ Comms forum, where it will attract more visibility.

Interesting, as Two Degrees is a winery in Central Otago. As such, both twodegrees.co.nz, and 2degrees.co.nz are gone. twodegreesmobile.co.nz appears to have been registered and being parked at Domainz.

Dontget your hopes up.. It can take 6 months for any IPONZ application to be sucessful.. and then they can start to say they own it..

Lets see maybe another 12 months? Apparntly they havent even started to co-locate on the 116 Vodafone cell sites they were offered!

Numerous co-sited Vodafone / NZ Comms sites in Wgtn.

The big question is whether "co-sited" simply refers to standalone masts or on existing structures where Vodafone have equipment.

The mobile market has a turnover of about $2.3 billion per year so I do hope that  NZ Comms will be able to win customers from the existing incumbents. Hopefully once they launch we will see more realistic mobile pricing.

Most Wgtn sites still have no backhaul yet. Microwave horns are slowly starting to appear but a lot are still missing them. They seem to be focussing on the CBD first.

There are a few sites that have been set up in Auckland in the past 6 months, but are only now getting microwave horns added to them. I know of 6 around me that have gone up, 1 of which now has a microwave horn on it
