Heya,

I'm Waiuku-based and I've been seeing highly inconsistent connection speeds over the past couple of weeks or so. During the day while I'm working from home I get a solid 900+ Mbps with no issues, but once it's the evening the speed drops to well below half of that.

Here's what I'm seeing currently, around 6 PM:

I've got a few other mates on 2d that are seeing similarly low speeds at this hour.

Ethernet. Only me using the bandwidth oftentimes. I’ve been through a similar song and dance before when Vodafone had major congestion issues on their cable network, so I’m pretty familiar with the troubleshooting steps heh.

Yes. It’s thankfully nowhere near as bad as congestion issues that I’ve dealt with before. But it’s still far from ideal.

What stops working when the speeds drop if they are not ideal?

Are you trying to spin this as "not an issue"? Because that's what it sure seems like, and it feels awfully dismissive...

Should be pretty obvious that nothing "stops working", but when downloads are suddenly taking ~2-3x as long it's not exactly appreciated. Plus, when it drops to ~300 Mbps speeds, it feels pretty darned rotten to be paying an extra ~$17 per month for virtually no speed difference (excluding the fact that I also care about the upload speed, which thankfully remains rock solid throughout the day).

I don't see how this is relevant when the OP is trying to figure out whether this is a widespread issue or not.

The OP has done the testing and proved that peak time the internet connection drops to 1/3 download so they should now call the ISP and log a fault with them

Maybe I wasn't clear enough in my response. The OP is trying to figure out whether this is a widespread issue or not so that they can figure out whether it's a single peering issue or an ISP-wide issue. It's a discussion - not sure why you are being so standoffish here.

Can’t say I have a 1Gbs connection, but on a 300/100 I have no issues;

I don't think this would necessarily be a provisioning issue, but more of a capacity issue.

Didn’t suggest it was - just providing an alternative view.
Capacity may be an issue as we’ll as local issue to the OP. Faulty cable, software / firmware update etc. many options!

OP consider checking out

You aren't wrong, but gathering more information is the entire point of this post! 😅

2d customer here. Not in Waiuku, am in Hibiscus Coast.

I did notice some time (months) ago that evenings were slower (from Speedtests). However, recently that seems to have been resolved. I figured 2d had upped their capacity.

This is a result from just now: https://www.speedtest.net/result/c/3ea73155-24a1-4ecc-add9-4359e0ff0c66
