I use a commercial 4G router as a means of remote control and telemetry access to do fault finding on electric security fencing.

For years I used a 2D pre paid sim. In the beginning it was a case of activating it when needed with $10 to do the job. After a while I linked data sharing to my pay monthly account and its stayed alive ever since...love it.

I have recently tried to fire up the unit but no connection. It sees the tower but doesn't connect.

I get the error code 2xGSM led flash.

- Cellular network problem.
- SIM not activated, banned, or out of credit.
- Poor signal strength.

I know the Sim works because I can put it in my phone and its good. I also tried my pay monthly Sim from my phone in the unit but same result.

Desperate to get the job done I bought a Skinny prepay sim and everything came to life.

What has changed at 2 Degrees for this to happen?

Maybe it was connecting using 3G, Because the band coverage on your device wasn't able to find a strong enough 4G signal from 2D, ??

When the 3G went away it was left hanging.... But the Spark/Skinny 4G coverage is better and hence it works..

What's the device and what Bands does it say it does...??

What is the 2degrees 4G / LTE coverage like in the location the unit is located?

Probably the same problem that affected a friends lot of GPS trackers - minimal LTE band support on the module that it had enough they could say "look its 4g" but not many that are in use now are supported on it, so it was really on 3g all the time.

It's a JVA PTE0320.JVA PTE0320 Brochure

I hadn't used it for quite some time, so yes, last time was pre and post 3G turn off.

It uses: 4G B1/3/5/7/28 + 3G B1/5 + 2G 850/900/1800/1900MHz

As for coverage, I use it around Auckland at various job sites.

I have another 2D sim in a different router (UCR-ST-B5) unit near home that still works, as does my phone, but this device doesn't.

Either the radio in the JVA device doesn't like 2D or for some reason its not switching its radio to 4G...?

2degrees uses B1/3/28 (only missing B8) so seems strange it doesn't work anymore.

In Auckland all sites have B3 and and most upgraded sites now have the full array of B1/3/8/28.

Spark does have B5, but also B1/3/28 like 2degrees.

Do you have another 2deg SIM to try?

I presume you've tried in different locations?

I had a look at pic and looked up specs for the EC21-AU chip and found this datasheet.

The -AU version of that chip supposely supports:
LTE-FDD: B1/22/3/4/5/7/8/28; LTE-FDD: B40;

This is perfect full band support for all 3 networks in NZ so not sure what the issue.

Probally just coverage. A tiny black spot.

OP hasn’t disclosed the location it wasn’t working in but has mentioned it’s Auckland….

so maybe a gully or ridge bringing the issue.

Generally anywhere that had U900 coverage will now have L700/900 coverage so I don't think location is the issue here. But keen to know of OP has tried the equipment at any other location -- but perhaps not practicable to do so?
