I'm currently a customer on Vodafone Broadband/Home Phone (On Ultimate Pack) and came across Slingshot's 'The Next Big Thing'.

I know it's just resold Red Network (Vodafone) service, but they offer 20GB more internet, free offpeak, and free VOIP so it's kinda hard to just pass by. I would switch right now, but I've been told they "bandwidth shape" on P2P (Torrents etc) as well as sites like RapidShare which would kinda be a let-down as I use torrents and filesharing sites to share with friends/relatives overseas.

Is this true? Or just rumor? Are there any other reasons why Vodafone is better then Slingshot?

If not, I think I'll be switching right now :)

I haven't picked any up any distinct shaping, the off-peak torrent action is great! I switched straight from Red to TNBT and have been extremely satisfied

Rapidshare (and similar sites) are definitely a fair way down the hierarchy.

Torrents aren't anywhere near as bad as they used to be, but they're definitely lower down than HTTP downloads.

as for how long the decent-great speeds last ...
With the new plan on the horizon, I doubt it'll be very long.

Switched to Slingshot today. Got cutoff at about 5AM, no notice, no warning. No internet, no phone. Internet came online at about 3PM, no phone until I called Slingshot at 5PM and they connected it manually (I think?). Speeds on the internet are slower the Vodafone (where we just came from) by about 3Mbit, but that's something I can live with.

Downloads of anything seemed to be capped at 150KB/s. Not happy. If this doesn't change I'll be gone so fast.

Still haven't received my iTalk or even a welcome email. Not very happy so far and if I don't see much of an improvement I'll be selling that crappy modem that they sent me, that seemed to limit itself to 5Mbit to pay the early disconnection charges.
