Details;

- Central Auckland CBD location

- Customer for 6 months

- Speeds have been fine up until the last fortnight/several.

- Along with the speed change, the same time I am getting a disconnect from online games and it appears my connection is refreshing/restarting itself. Its like it turns on and off, the first sign is the ping starts to drop and then its a crash/dc; from game, ventrillo, torrents switch off, web browse - you name it, it all shuts down and I have to wait.

Unsure if it is ISP related 100%, however I do ring them up and tell them about the time outs or whatever you may want to call it. I have have about half a dozen today... getting beyond a joke.

This is a totally new problem, I changed over from Telecom to Orcon and noticed good speed/performance gains. Now of late, perhaps towards end of September; week prior the GST changes, this has started to happen, along with bad speeds, youtube buffering etc etc.

Have you actioned any basic fault checking?

Isolation tests would be the best place to start

Maybe the issue is not on the Orcon network

Yup have tried different ethernet cables to reduce any problems. I have plugged the modem straight into the wall settings and have the same set of results. I have unplugged the phone to avoid any interference, it did nothing.

After doing various reading, when I ping my IP/Physical Address of my Router-Modem via cmd/tracert procedure I get;

1ms > 1ms > 1ms

When I tracert/cmd I to google/youtube I get usually 50 to 99 > 99 > 99.

I have tried it both on a lap top and a desktop, so it cannot be my hardware from my Desktop Mother Board (What I play on most the time), since the lap top came up with the same results.

I have read around too and it has to be a network issue; from what I have read if you ping your modem and its as I have stated above and then to a www site you get alot higher results, it is not the modem.

Anyone able to confirm this? Various networking sites and modem/router forums I have read same scenarios.

What are some other tips here I can try? I have to try my modem at another location and try a friends here.

Any help is welcome here.

Hi, sounds like the PC to modem is all going fine, 1ms> ping to router etc , so now checking the modem to exchange can you show your modems line stats page.

1. Modem was actually fuawcked.

2. However I am getting disconnected and the same problem again.

I don't think that's it.
The first time I noticed it happening was the 15th of Sep. I don't know about prior to that cos I was on LLU and had a different set of issues.

Edit: Oh, and data is slow for me too, but not as slow as last night, which is odd, it's different from the usual behaviour. I'm getting 1Mbps down from LAX, where usually it's either 5-7Mbps or 0.4-0.5 Mbps, one or the other.

Edit2: I'm also getting slightly higher latancy than usual, where for me ping is usually rock solid regardless of down speed. It's usually 140ms, but tonight I'm getting 180ms from LAX. Not a big issue, but it's an anomaly. Tonights slowdown might be just due to peak traffic, I dunno.

Again, I wish someone in the know at ORCON would tell us what is going on!!!! I know at least 1 staff member watches this thread.

Noticed the comment about the 15th of September, same as what I have said to the contact centre and also the same as what I said in this thread.

Something is seriously fawcked here I think.

On that note, I did buy a whole new modem, so it is not the hardware at all anymore.

Disconnect number 3 tonight, probally easilly over 50 now during the nights I play online games.

Anyone able to comment Telstra in Auckland CBD vs Orcon?
