very slow speed loading international websites. I can load any nz website in just seconds, but international one will takes 5 minutes at least. sometimes facebook just can't open at all, outlook sometimes can't connect to hotmail server.

Just tested adsl phoneline by Orcon diagnostics software, and waitting for respond.

BTW!!!

Telecom just installed a new "big green box" about 100 meters away from my house a few days ago, and the issues starts after that.

Any one know what is this "green box" ?

Will this or can this "green box" cause the problem, or it's just coincidence ?

please help......

What DNS are you using?

The cabinet might not even be operational yet...

Been having international connectivity problems in Nelson as well since roughly 1pm.

Looks like their tech support is a bit swamped, havent been able to get through since things started.

That green box is a Telecom cabinet. I've just had one installed at the top of my street a couple of days ago, and I had heaps of disconnections on Thursday. My international internet is shocking at the moment, but I think this is a technical problem with Orcon at the moment.

If the cabinet has just been built within the past few days, it won't be switched on for another month or two. Take note of your modem's connection-rate right now. Check it again in a month or so. If your speed has plummited to around 2M, might be worth giving Orcon a call as you might not've been moved onto the cabinet yet ... especially if you're on one of the Orcon + plans.

Once you're on the cabinet, your connection speeds will be around the 20-24M mark.

I'm sure if they leveled the cabinet out the bits down the wire would not have to travel up hill so much.
As Gingerman has said, the Orcon guys will know how to take care of that cabinet though, and will most likely be able to get you on a level playing field with everyone else.

Orcon did have issues over the weekend with International

If you are on an Orcon+ (Orcon LLU gear in the exchange) plan and your area gets a cabinet, you may need to ring them up and let them know about it.

They should be on top of it and have migrated you or not signed you up to a + if you were due to get a cabinet but there are always cases that fall through the cracks

Basically they will need to move you off Orcon LLU gear in the exchange to be on a Orcon non + plan served via Telecom Wholesale gear in the cabinet.

Ignore the above if you are already on a non + plan, in which case it may either be a general Orcon issue or just side effect of the cabinet migration process.

Patience is a virtue I hear.

sweet, thanks for that...

yes, i m with the orcon+ plan, and got a average 7300kps/800kps connection speed(the one shows in my modem)

if they move me to the cabinet, will i get a better speed?

what i hear is that orcon will try the best to keep you on their LLU, because they are making more profit on their LLU.

BTW, i just had a look on those orcon non+ plan, it's much expensive than + plan. is that any way i can get a better speed and keep my isp bill as low as possibe?
