Hello folks... Wife decided to join 2degrees, mainly because she's on an old Vodafone plan, and it costs too much for nothing really (she uses about 10 minutes voice a month, most of the use is for SMS).

How do we proceed? First apply for monthly plan, then port the number after it's approved? We have a SIM card here, shall we first activate the SIM, then apply for monthly, then port the number?

If she only uses that little a month why bother with pay monthly?

I did the same thing when 2D first started but if I remember rightly I just activated SIM and ported my VF number over on the website

Because the alternative means having to keep an eye on balance?

Just setup an auto topup and then whenever your balance gets to a threshold you automatically topup by whatever value you set it to.

You can effectively have a $19 on account plan with the $19 prepay pack and a $20 autotop up whenever your balance goes below say $10.

$19 combo, still $10 a month less than cheapest pay monthly and you get 30 minutes talk, 2000 texts and 50Mb data (although I'm sure you knew that!)

With the auto renewals and tops ups on all the prepay add ons you really don't need to keep an eye on balance

Ha ha, beat me to it

Yes, just looking at this - it looks like she wouldn't even spend enough on prepay to justify the $19 pack.

Might just port her number to prepay now and see how it goes.

If she uses predominantly texts then the text pack gives you 2000 texts for $10

That's what we did with my wife's Vodafone. She spends next to nothing on it other than a few texts and mobile data - for her 100Mb a month is fine as she's only really using it for light browsing and email.

Hi Mauricio, if you are thinking of going for a Pay Monthly plan we recommend signing up before porting the number just in case there's a problem with the credit check or signing up process. But as you're not in any rush then port the number first.

To port the number sign up to Your 2degrees - https://secure.2degreesmobile.co.nz/web/ip/login.

Cheers

Or sign up for a $29 Pay Monthly 24 month plan and get a free IDEOS smartphone. Last day of the promotion is tomorrow. You know who to call... :-) (hint: 0800124642)

Thanks... But after looking at prices we decided being on prepaid would be enough for her needs. And she didn't want to change handset - a very old Windows Mobile 6 that I tried to change for the last couple of years...

I use mobile data. When 2degrees offer mobile data in Napier I might change it ;)

I'd be interested to hear how quick the number port is.
