If you are inside the boundaries (the big circle drawn around Auckland) of 2degrees coverage but in a dead spot your phone won't roam onto Vodafone. The roaming only kicks in outside the greater area.

And yes from my personal experience reception around the outer edge of extreme west suburb's (Waiatarua, Oratia) can be a bit sketchy

West Auckland is a big fail on all networks everytime I have been out there. Get up towards scenic drive and you are in and out of coverage all the time on all networks.

And yes, there are many many places out there that have no 2degrees but have okish VF or telecom signal. Different network = different coverage footprint. Same happens out the end of the north western motorway when you go left and then around the back suburbs there.

I don't believe thats true.  I am roaming onto Vodafone in Howick when I move to one end of my house, which should be part of the 2D coverage.

Unless 2degrees have approached Vodafone about exemptions for specific sites this isn't possible.

2degrees SIM's won't camp onto the Vodafone network anywhere within 2degrees's own network footprint in Auckland, Wellington, Chirsitchurch and Queenstown. This rule exists because 2degrees don't want customers being able to roam on Vodafone (either by coice or by selecting VF) within their coverage footprint.

Maybe you're seeing a Waiheke Island based site or some other VF site thats outside the nominal 2deg footprint. (Depends where you are in the Howick area of course if this is the case)

Eastern beach is the same. Can easily select vodafone or 2degrees. Coverage is provided by the waiheke sites and pine harbor site which both allow for 2degree roamers
