Was in wellington this weekend, and have had a few clients call saying their slingshot / call plus connections arent working this afternoon in napier. Their website says it seems to be most of the lower north island.

Anyone know why?

I am guessing fibre cut related to bad weather.

Most cellphones allow you to plug them into a usb cable to a computer and use them as a 3g broadband modem via the phones internet connection.

This is called tethering.

New android phones allow you to use the built in wifi to create a small hotspot and you can hook your laptop up to the phone via wifi and use its internet connection that way.

I just plugged my HTC Sensation into the PC and it comes up with an option to use the phone as a USB modem. easy peasy.

Experienced same fault Sunday afternoon and didn't come back on line until Monday morning.

Router would not authenticate. Slingshot said it affected users through the Napier to Nelson region and was a Telecom issue.

A family member using Slingshot in Hastings was fine but I was affected in Clive area. Not sure if it was just users whose routers went through a reset/authentication that were affected.
