Hi, the HP EliteBook 2740p I have has a data sim slot for mobile broadband.  I had a vodafone data sim which worked well, but due to 2 Degree's better value for money, changed to them.

However the 2 Degrees data sim seems to crash the HP Connection Manager software.

When you open connection manager, there is an error displayed "the inserted SIM is not recognized".  A Custom profile must be created.  The fields for APN etc are all blank.  I enter in "internet" in the APN field per 2 Degress support, click ok and the error:

"a fatal error occured, check the HP Connection Manager in Event Viewer for more details.
object reference not set to an instance of an object"

The connection manager quits.

However, I can connect via the windows wireless connection, but due to the above cannot use the texting to top up the account etc.

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

Hi, it sounds like an issue with the Connection Manager. Check if there's an updated Connection Manager on HP's website. As it's connecting using Windows Wireless connection the SIM seems to be working ok, but the Comm Mgr isn't recognising it. A more up-to-date version may fix the problem.

The new hp connection manager has been released 4.2.50.1, and has fixed the problem for me.

I ended up moving to 2degrees auto top up so that got around the texting issue to do a top up, but was interesting that running windows 8 consumer preview I have had zero issues with the mobile broadband feature without needing the hp connection software
