Change ISP's if you have speed issues. There are plenty of threads that discuss Slingshot speeds on here, and you will have to decide for yourself whether paying a cheaper price gives you the service you're expecting.

Do they advise Full speed unlimited?

Sounds like you are expecting unlimited speed

I'm assuming the unlimited plan you are referring to is the All you can eat plan?

If so, that plan is heavily throttled, so i wouldn't expect good speeds.

Im on the Pro plan from Slingshot.

File hosting tests:

Wupload: 320kb/s max
Fileserve: 380kb/s
Filesonic: 310kb/s
Rapidshare: 1.1mb/s

All were on free accounts. Files were just random ones i found

Apparantly it's not always possible to change ISP's??
I am currently with Slingshot and Snap told me they were unable to connect me as the exchange can't handle any more connections! But I said it isn't a new connection as I already have broadband...does this sound right?

Switching providers should be fine, it's just new connections.

IN response to original poster, the all you can eat plan specifically throttles filesharing and http downloads. That's the only way slingshot can offer that sort of plan in NZ, having a paid account iwht megaupload or wherever wouldn't make any difference there.

From Slingshot's terms of use

"6.3
If you are on an “uncapped” or “unlimited” plan the total amount of data you can upload or download is unlimited. We may use traffic prioritisation policies for these plans and our capped plans at any time to improve the overall performance amongst our customers."

I can get as high as 60% of line speed on the Naked Broadband plan during normal peak hours.

Also those http sites are classified as filesharing, so they're prioritised as such. I'm guessing you're downloading in the free data period as well. If so try downloading at another time of the day and see if your speeds are better.

I'm getting the same thing on telecom with fileserve and filesonic. both premium accounts

I always used to get upto 2mb/s now I get 100-200kb tops.

I'm getting better results with fileserve download manager from fileserve.com but filesonic doesn't ever exceed 200kb anymore using IDM or jdownloader.

Telecom NZ don't shape or restrict traffic on any of their plans so it won't be their doing.

www.speedtest.net still shows my adsl speed as 16Mb/s down and 900Kb/s up - yet the fileshare and filesonic speeds are constantly low - 100-200 kb

Can you qualify that though?  They may not state it on the plans doesn't mean the don't shape or prioritise traffic.

Unless you work in their networking team? I work for Telecom (Gen-i) but I don't even pretend to know how they have configured things, and I doubt call centre/helpdesk staff do either.

The speedtest sites all lie, they seem to be whitelisted. Wrong forum but Telecom do appear to be managing traffic flows at some level.

Would you care to back that up with anything?

This is not the case, unless it's related to genuine network congestion in which case it won't be targetted at a particular user, plan or protocol.
