Hiya, someone is going overseas and would be useful to have GPS.

1.  The data rate - is that min a MB per day or are you billed to a certain KB?

2.  If a person is going to use it for like 5hrs a day walking around, commuting around, how much would one expect on a bill?

Thanks.

Yes, don't even think about doing this as it is just not cost effective.

Instead, look at offline options for GPS, such as:

1. www.sygic.com (very good maps at an affordable price - highly recommended)
2. TomTom (available on iOS)
3. Google Maps - you can now go into the Labs feature and download areas of maps to use offline.

It depends where you're roaming and what plan you're on ($59 Pay Monthly and above it's 55c per MB in Australia). We'll round up usage to the nearest 5kb.

The Google Lab thing probably isn't going to work, not enough.

It's HKG.
Would it be a min charge of 1MB per day?

Ah, that's 50c/MB.

Mind you, it could be a goldmine if we *told* you it was 50c/MB but *charged* you 55c/KB. I should suggest it to marketing.

Hey, that's an awesome idea - it's not like you can decide to pay tax to some other government instead!

Hong Kong?

It will be large enough mate. You can download 10 areas lasting 30 days. To give you the idea of the space covered, it's close to covering 50% of the North Island.
