Hi,

I saw and old topic on this but nothing for a while.

I've had a number of text messages go missing when sending or being sent to me since I switched from Vodafone to 2 Degrees.

I don't send that many messages but I know of 3 definite cases where messages have gone and another 3 where I think they have but I haven't bothered to confirm them.  I never had this problem on Vodafone.

Has anyone else had this? Is it 2 Degrees vs Vodafone or same on Telecom?

This has caused so much embarrassment and wasted time I'm going to chuck 2 Degrees in and go back to Vodafone or try XT. I'm not keen on Vodafone as the reason I left was the pathetic plans and customer service and Telecom is still a bit new for my liking but this is a show stopper for me and 2 Degrees.

Nick

The best idea is to get examples with times / dates / A party / Barty and log a ticket with 2Degrees so the examples can be checked,

I can work with SaltyNZ (2degrees engineer) and we can trace these SMS from start to finish

Have regular problems between VF (me) and TC (wife). Not many completely lost but often turn up hours or even a day later. Leads to some interesting times occasionally! My rule now is if they need to get the message right now...then phone and tell them in person. Tried following it up but TC say it's VF issue and vice versa...I have given up.

Was the number ported? If yes; there is your issue.

Porting in NZ for text is not reliable.

the number is indeed ported.

They're checking it out to try and trace it.

I'm on 2degrees and have a number ported from Vodafone and I have experienced loss of a few messages over the last year.

Personally I consider SMS messaging to be an archaic technology which is better replaced with iMessage or Facebook Messenger, but unfortunately a lot of my friends are still in the dark ages so I've just told them that they are best to call me if they have anything important to communicate.

Another nonsense comment by SteveON, Lord help us!

SMS between carriers in NZ is very reliable even if the MSISDN is ported,

Yet there are users reporting that texts are not getting thru.

Sorry John but I think your comment is equally nonsense if we're going to start being rude about people.

So John do you have a ported number? You may understand how the systems work. Suprize but I have followed salty's comments on sms and salty had admitted that there are issues.

I was on 2degrees with a ported number and I can confirm I had issues too.

It appears that sometimes the texts terminate to the wrong network.

Person to Person national SMS is fine as long as the routing tables are correct on each carrier

Salty has advised on international not national that I am aware of,

Don the issue was this comment here --> Porting in NZ for text is not reliable

This is not the case at all even SMS on non ported numbers don't get delivered sometimes,

Hadset / SIM memory full
MSISDNs added to Blacklists on handsets some customers even forget they setup Vodafone SMS blacklist
Customers leaving coverage for longer than 72 hours and SMS expires
Handset SMS settings to expire the SMS if not delivered in X amount of time instead of set to Max time (72 hours for Vodafone)

Don I stand by my comment unless each case is looked into stating the issue is with porting is not correct

Hi John,

Thanks for the feed back. I asked for some deails so I could forward you some info, but didn't hear from you.

I have Salt's email so I sent him and asked him to forward it on.

As you know I am a strong supporter of both VF and 2D, and am interested in just seeing the issues fixed for myself and everyone else.

I have a ported VF number, so when Steve made his comment it just run a cord with me.

Being on the outside, we really have no clue at all what the problems are, but we sure suffer for them. The text I mised the other day lead to a mis understanding between the wife and I.

For you folk outside of Christchurch, I think you all need to remember that we are still very jaded down here and we really to rely on good communication systems and when they let us down we become more stressed far more quickly that we may have in the past.

So, yes, we're here trying to be constructive and offer what ever feed back we can.

Cheers Don

Doesn't everybody rely on good communication systems?

SMS delivery is not guaranteed.

I wouldn't expect a UDP datagram to reach it's destination everytime either.

Two important differences.  I'm not familiar with GSM but I expect there is a lot more control on an SMS than best effort like UDP.  UDP is generally for transient data that is no longer useful if it get there a second late.

Beside I get charged for a text message so I would have thought there was some warranty implied there. Any one know if that is the case?

Nick
