I want to move my iPhone 4S from Telecom to 2degrees but I don't see how they justify $20 for a pretty much empty sim card. I don't want one of their numbers, I don't want any credit with it, since I plan on topping up myself. No way I can get a microsim without paying them for basically a number and some data?

I have a spare mini-sim card but it needs to be cut down and I'm kinda scared to. I posted a request in the off-topic forum too if anyone had a microsim cutter so whichever gets me on 2degrees faster, I'll go with haha..

If you have a micro-sim cutter could you pm me? cheers ;D

Thanks for your help in advance.

When I was migrating from my iPhone 3GS to 4S I went into the 2degrees store on Customhouse Quay in Wellington and they sold me a blank micro SIM for $5. From there it was just a matter of ringing the call centre when I was ready to switch my connection over to the micro SIM.

So, if you already have an active connection to 2degrees and you just want to migrate to a micro SIM then you shouldn't have to pay $20 for a new connection.

I spoke to them and they said the only way to bring my number from another network is to put it on a normal $20 microsim, so if I get a $5 standard sim, port my number over to that, then transfer the number from that normal sim to the micro sim, it should work shouldnt it?

If you already have an active 2degrees SIM just cut it down with scissors. Then, assuming it's ok (and as long as you're careful it will be) you can port your number over. If you brok it, get a $5 blank microsim and simswap ono it, *then* port your number.

But you can't *start* with the $5 blank microsim. It is not a working account.

Even if I've used the account before? This sim is quite old. It works, its in a phone now and calls out and stuff work fine. ill probably port my number tomorrow sometime then. Cant wait :D

If it works in another phone now, then it will be fine. I would chop it before porting, though, just be on the safe side. :-) I've done several with scissors and/or craft knife and not had a problem.

EDIT: to be clear, by 'works' I mean, can make an outbound phone call.
