Hey all.
My iPhone 4S arrived today, I cut up my regular 2d sim into a micro sim but it doesn't seem to pick up any service - even with "2degrees" selected in Network Selection. I've tried the cut-down sim in a different phone and it works fine.
Can anyone shed some light?

I suggest you get a real micro SIM and see if it works. After all, after spending $1000 on a handset, what's an $10 - $20 on a micro SIM?

You need to install the 9A406 build of iOS 5.0.1 -- the version from Software Update via the phone is 9A405. To install '06 you need to do a restore from backup while connected to iTunes.

It's not a 2degrees issue; it's worldwide. Google for 'iPhone 4S Invalid SIM'.

Thanks for that Salty, it works!
How do I go about getting a blank micro sim and transferring my account over?

If that's working now you don't need to bother. The microsims are provided as a convenience, but if you've successfully cut down a normal SIM already you won't gain anything by getting one.

Had the same problem myself as I got 4S at Christmas. My wife did too. Oddly, she has never experienced Invalid SIM/No Service, but I got it daily, sometimes more than once.

Even with this build there are still some bugs: I get 'Failed to activate cellular data service' occasionally for no apparent reason, and sometimes when setting carrier from Auto to manual to lock to a particular network* the phone searches for a while and then says 'Cannot load network carrier list' or something like that which means a reboot if I need to do the manual lock.

*My SIM can roam on Vodafone inside the exclusion zones to allow me to do testing of roaming scenarios from the office. I live out of canopy; since the phone doesn't get booted off Vodafone when it comes back in, it's quite happy to stay there.

But since performance is so much better on 2degrees, naturally I switch it back as soon as I park my car. :-P

Park your car?? I thought we chauffeured you in! ;0)

Just for info 'V' - http://www.2degreesmobile.co.nz/help/simcards

Need a blank MicroSIM?
If you have a normal 2degrees SIM and want to swap it for a MicroSIM to fit into your iPhone or iPad you can do this by getting yourself a blank MicroSIM and we’ll move your old account onto it. You can pick one up from 2degrees stores, Warehouse Stationery, Dick Smith or Harvey Norman, find the store closest to you. Once you have your blank MicroSIM call us on 200 or 0800 022 022 to have your number and credit moved over.

I had the no service error after returning from overseas. After spending considerable time talking to many people on the phone and completing a restore I went to store for a new sim.

The fix however was to go to Settings/phone/SIM applications/roaming menu/manual.

This allows the carrier settings to be updated. Seems there is an error with the iphone/Telecom when roaming.
