When I first signed up for Snap about 10 months ago it was because at the time, Snap's prices were very competitive.  Now other ISPs have lowered prices or increased caps and it seems that Snap is near the back of the pack in terms of affordability.

So I'm just wondering if Ralph can tell us Snap's pricing policy.  Did it always intend to be cheaper than the others?  Does it review its pricing at regular intervals?  Are there any changes in the pipeline?  :)

Hi Geoff,

We constantly review our pricing to remain competitive in the market and to bring value to our customers.

In saying that, we also understand that pricing is a major factor in choosing your ISP.

As it stands, I believe there are a few things under consideration, both in terms of pricing and other services.

I'm a Snap customer, too, both at home and at work. I'd like to see some pricing that reflects changes in the market over the last 12 months, Slingshot is offering some pretty sharp rates at the moment.

Interested in any possible price decreases (or, what interests me more is cap increases for the same price)
I am in the situation where I want to move out the place I am currently in, but having to resign to a new connection where I get less and paying more doesn't appeal.

I am rather happy with Snaps performance and would rather stay with them .. but other companies that I once overlooked are now in a position to offer larger caps (and also bribe with discounts on other things)

As a Snap customer I have been looking around and there are a few other Naked DSL plans which seem far more competitive to my current plan on Snap. (Basic 10G + additional 25GB) 

Even Slingshot is offering a no cap plan for $90 per month. Tempting

So expressing happiness with Snap in the past, and knowing how good their customer service (and technical service delivery is), people are considering giving that up to go to Slingshot?

Because people want cheap things. Then we get more people talking about the other provider not giving good customer service or having speed problems. But, hey... It's cheaper! 

Like someone who bought something worth a lot here in NZ from DealExtreme for a couple of bucks, then when it didn't work complained "They are so cheap anyway, it makes you wonder how." Didn't think that when ordering, right?

The cheap mentality for telecommunications is NZ is really deeply embedded because we were (and still are) being ripped for every dollar they can get.

That said, Snap has amazing customer service. 9 months with Telecom complaining of poor service, disconnections etc and being told it was our router/modem. Swapped to Snap, within 2 months (of active tests from them and us) we found it to be the Chorus line between my house and the cabinet.

Fair (internationally) prices and caps are very important, but don't overlook the benefits of good CSRs!

who said anything about Slingshot being cheap. its certainly not. but hey its uncapped and thats the point apposed to 30gb from snap for nearly the same price.

any comments from anyone on VDSL2, is it worth the extra money? Do you really get at least 2x the speed??

I personally dont have VDSL but i know a few people who do with snap. They are getting 35mbit+

I personally think thats worth it

yeah I'm on SNAP too, in Auckland CBD, about 20m away from VDSL cabinet, so seriously considering migrating from ADSL2 to VDSL

any ideas what they are getting for upload?

I don't think you're being very fair.  Snap used to be one of the cheapest - now it's not.  If Snap decide they don't care to be the cheapest anymore, that's fine, but it's logical that some of those who signed up when it was would turn away.  No one is denying that Snap's customer service is good, but for some people price/caps are a bigger priority.

Snap are an interesting company and when they first started out I did consider joining them but decided otherwise for small reasons.

With VDSL2 being offered it is once again becoming tempting to join however, To match the cap I currently get with Vodafone (Which is already becoming too small very quickly) it would cost me another $40 with Snap, Unlimited YouTube for $5 would be a nice but as my current data Usage has little YouTube Data in it that would do little to stem the problem.

$50 a month extra for VDSL2 while I do consider it to be a little on the expensive side could be workable, However the extra $40 to match my current data before I even look at purchasing extra to compensate for the increased speeds makes it unworkable for me.

While VDSL is not as widely available as I would have hoped there currently better alternatives available, And short of that I may end up switching to Slingshot or even a dual line setup.
